Hi Everyone,
I'm getting my fly boxes filled up for a spring. Any recommendations on flies I should tie up for rainbows?
Cheers,
Salar.

stillwater flies
hi there,
i'll preface this advice with the fact that i have not fly-fished stillwaters in ontario as yet but...
i'd also include some leech patterns (black, olive, purple), chironomids (red, black and others depending on water body) and scuds (tan, olive, brown).
here's an article that was written by an experienced fisherman in alberta posted on another board on chironomid fishing:

as i said before, i have not fished the stillwaters in this area but i'm assuming that these food items would be present.

I've caught most of my rainbows in local waters on a few patterns.
1) very skinny, olive & black, woolly buggers, shortish tail, chenille or peacock herl bodies, size 8 or 10, fished tandem very slowly
2) conehead marabou muddlers, black with red butt, size 8 or 10, also fished tandem very slowly
3) crayfish patterns, size 8-10, cast to drop-offs and retrieved slowly
Sink-tip or full sink line with 12 foot leaders seemed to produce the best.
