Opening Up Your Cottage

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Opening Up Your Cottage

Post by wolfe »

Any one get their cottage opened, aired out and clean for the upcoming season? This bonus weather (it's been like skipping a whole month of crappy weather) enabled us to get up to our place and get it opened up and ready. It was fantastic to watch the ice disappear in a few days' time and the day before we left, our resident loons made an appearance.

Everything weathered exceptionally well for us. With the exception of one missing window screen, all was in good order.

I wonder how many people get to their cottages to find Mother Nature was cruel over the winter. Brian visited our cottage several times over the course of the winter, because we were concerned about all the snow.

Hope everyone's place weathered well and that we can all get a good jump on the cottage season!

W.

We got through OK. Our exceptionally flat roof leaked a tiny bit in the spring melt, but the giant snowload didn't do any damage, thanks to timely shovelling and roof raking. On with the fun part.

My father and I head up tomorrow to open the cottage...If Wolfe lake is open then ours should be as well so maybe a quick fish after getting the water turned on. We were up a few times over the winter and all was good but it is when you turn the water back on do you see what mother nature has done. Lets hope no plumbing is needed this year

good to hear your cottage is in good shape, and I agree about the amazing weather we've had this spring.

I don't have a cottage either, but I opened my shed a couple of weeks ago

Opened it up this weekend past. Everything survived the winter nicely except one damn pipe which blew out. Of course we didn't find it until it had deposited 3" of water onto the electrical panel room floor. Fishing boat is in the water, docks are in, grass is seeded and all the major spring/opening chores are done. I'm almost happy............

Now if May 10th would just come I can catch me some 'eyes for the Q and a few jacks for fun.

Well, I guess I jinxed the weather by mentioning how nice it's been. The party's over for a few days, anyway, with rain and chilly temps...even a few wet snowflakes in the forecast for Tues & Wed. UGH. :x

Nice to hear other folks are getting things opened and prepared. Seems there have been some repairs in order for some, but this is certainly the nature of the beast!
