Muskrat Lake Help
Muskrat Lake Help
Great forum! I was just wondering if anyone fishing Muskrat Lake this year who knows the lake would pass on any info they could. As I have a trailer at Bona-vista and have not fished it yet except for last Monday for a few hours. It was a bit windy that day and I only saw one boat on the water I think it was Priorguy as he said he was there. I will be at the trailer most of the summer as I am semi retired and plan to spend some time fishing.
Thanks
Thanks

Thank you for your welcome TroutnMuskieHunter.TroutnMuskieHunter wrote:Welcome to the site Awol!!....looking forward to reading your reports and seeing some pics of fish...we love pics!!
Muskrat Lake is a great lake to fish!!...Are you targetting a specific species???
I'm thinking mmmm TROUT! Although I love the big dog(Muskie) Ottawa east.
I read somewhere in here that the trout on Muskrat Lake eat smelt and it makes them a little oily?

I will be going out on Saturday around noon with my daughter and her friend. I just purchased the boat in January and she can't wait to go for a ride. She is going in for surgery on Tuesday at C.H.E.O for spinal surgery
and will be laid up for the summer. I was hoping to teach her a few things about fishing this year. So if anyone is on the lake pass us a wave it will make her day.

Ok.. here is what I found today...
I was marking tonnes at 60ft and none in the shallows. At first I thought my LX15 was acting up but as I pulled in my first with drop shot jiggin I realized it was bang on. In came a second and my brother pulled in the third...
After spending 4 hours in the bays and shallows with not a single bit I hit a couple honey holes and they were suspended at 60ft. Water temp was only 48 - 49 which lead me to think this is the reason they are still deep.
Of course the method for drop shot I can't tell you because I would be giving away all my secrets...
Anyhow, a fine day on the water.....

I have been out a few times now, I caught two lakers yesterday weighing 3 and 4 pounds. Fed a family of 5 a couple of times. Me, I ate fish sticks last night.
I was back at her today, but no lakers, I caught a few smallies, with one weighing 4 lbs 13 ounces. She was the only one I weighed and I had to because of her size. She will go well over 6 come summer time.
I think I talked to awol today at the launch just as I was leaving. I was in the silver Nitro. I may have saw some of you other guys out there today but without knowing who is who in the zoo I have no idea.
But it was just an awesome day on the water.
