Walleye Fishing League

Post by eye-tracker »

I am thinking of a new way to promote walleye tourney fishing to people that like to get out and fish for old marble eyes. My idea is to meet every Wednesday night at the town launch in Carleton Place at 5:30pm and head out and fish til 8:30. Each boat can bring in 3 walleyes and we will draw a hidden weight and the closest wins. We will use a normalized point system that is carried forward all summer and in September we can crown a winner.

This whole experience is about learning, sharing having fun and catching walleye. I will give out information and tips and some tackle/bait samples to help everyone become a better walleye angler. The best bite for walleye is mid summer (July and August) and you see very little walleye fishing once Bass starts up in the area, therefore I hope this is a great opportunity for walleye anglers to fish through the summer.

Once we get a few regulars participating we can look at visiting other lakes, rivers etc. I see this starting out as an informal get-together over the summer and can also entertain the possibility of monthly meetings over the winter to talk about walleye fishing.

Non boaters are also welcomed as we can have a list of available seats in boats each week.

I am going to fish with my six year-old son, as every Wednesday night is Dad and Son night to attack the walleyes. I will be out of town this summer fishing tournaments and will miss some of the nights, but hopefully it will be running on it's own by then.

Let me know what you think and we can get something going for the summer.

I don't know if I'd be able to do it every week, but I would certainly be interested in participating as often as possible!!! :D :D

Walleye League

Nice idea

I would not come weekly but maybe every second. Have a fishing boat and would love to take on new buds. Great way to meet new folks and share ideas and fishing holes. Count me in.

I think this is a really great idea and wish you all the luck getting this up & running.
However, for myself living in Brockville it means about 2 1/2 hrs of driving there and back. With the price of gas and my up & comming job situation I would honestly say I might go once. It would most likely be a full day bass trip to the Mississippi on a Wednesday with a walleye sidebar from 5:30 to 8:30.
Again, all the luck in getting this started.

Cheers,

Would be interested, however with shift work and being 2 hours away, would not be able to do it every week. However, it is an excellent idea.

I am definitely in. I work shift work but will trade shifts to be there, being that walleye fishing is the last true art form of fishing.

Hi Eye-Tracker,
I think its a great idea and would like to participate, but like a lot of others have stated, I would not be able to attend every week due to other commitments.
If arrangements are such that one is able to participate whenever possible, without a formal commitment, then I think it could be a lot of fun for the "Fish-Hawk Walleye Fraternity". It would allow us an opportunity to meet informally from time to time over the summer months and perhaps share a few ideas and have a few laughs.
As it appears most, if not all, will NOT make it every week, administration of the "Fishing League" may become a problem. Perhaps an exchange of ideas by participants will assist in reaching your stated goal of having "it running on its own."
Good luck with this idea, and if I can be of any assistance, let me know.

I just tossed the weekly idea out to get things rolling...I figure by the comments so far that maybe we should start with say the third Wednesday of each month - June, July, Aug and Sept.

Keep the ideas coming as this looks good so far.

This would be a neat Idea ..... my only problem, starting a new job in 2 weeks, I finish at 5:30, but with close proximity of work, home and the launch 6/6:15 pm would be Ideal

Sounds like an awesome idea

Thanx ET

Sheldon
I'm with Bill on this one, great idea, I'll make it out to most of them, but can't commit to every Wednesday.
I would also have a spare seat most of the time.
This sounds like a great idea to pick up lots of tips and find a few of those hot spots, maybe not all as you have to keep some for Father and son night. :) :)

I have never been out targeting walleye, caught on once by mistake at Dick Bell Park. Worm and a bobber. Would love to actually go out and target these and learn all about fishing em!

Just like many others, having to get off work early every week may have been a problem but once a month is doable for me. :)

It may be good ideal to get a second poll going to see if their's a better day for everyone.
