This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

First 2008 Trip up North Report (with pics)

Post by troutnmuskiehunter »

Friday finally arrived after months of talkin bout the trip up North with the boyz

Bender and I left the house at noon and made it up to the lake in record time...we were actually surprised that the traffic was so light the whole way up except for a bit of conjestion passing through North Bay around 4:00PM

The weather Friday evening was gorgeous, and the lake was like glass..we met up with TL1 and his buddy that got to the cabin earlier that day......hauling all the the gear up to the cabin made us a bit thirsty so we decided to "down" a few ice cold beers and get the fishing gear ready for Saturday....

Woke up Saturday morning with a slight pain in my head after only 4hrs of sleep and to the not so nice sound of rain ...the wind had also picked up and the lake was rough!!...we had a quick breakfast, put on our rain gear and headed out...the water temps were around 45C and the fish appeared to be down in the 40 - 60' range...our boat only had 1 hit for the day...Doug and TL1 had a bit more luck and landed 3 Lakers that day...

Sunday turned out to be a better day as far as weather...we were able to land a couple of Walleye and a lot of OOS huge bass that were released at the side of the boat between 6:30 and 8:30 that morning!! We kept 1 Walleye and had to throw the other one back because it was in the slot size

After a great lunch fish fry, we went back out and targeted Lakers....THEY WERE ON FIRE!!!

We managed to catch 10 that afternoon and the arches on the sonar were unbelievable .....ended up keeping 6 between the 4 of us and went back to the cabin for dinner and drinks!!

Woke up on Monday to blowing snow squalls and rough water ....this cold front moved in and drove the fish back down and they turned off!!....TL1 and Doug caught and released two small lakers and that was it for the entire day...

You can see the snow in the hills and trees on the far shoreline

Woke up early Tuesday morning to pack up and head home only to see blue skies and beautiful calm water Our 2 buddies who are staying up at the cabin until Saturday waved goodbye to us with BIG SMILES on their faces while me and Bender cursed all the way back to the launch...

All in all it was a good trip with a great bunch of lads, good food, lots of laughs and can hardly wait for the next trip!!

Great report TMH....

What you missed...serious laker action all week. For the seven days, we were shut out only once. Landed 21 (lakers) in our boat, including our double header (unbelievable!!) on Sunday. Water temps ruled the day, and the second week up there will do well, I am sure. It was 45 when we left this morning. My livewell got a serious workout. We released better than 70% of the fish caught.

Minnow baits and Williams whitefish were the baits of preference, but honestly with that water temp, an old earring trolled at the right speed, might have worked. :) Fish were scattered, anywhere from 10-80 FOW

Great trip. Lots of fish, and lots of fun. Cuckin' fold though!!

Have you ever seen a mooselook, Bender??

Be well,

Thanks for sharing that TL1

Sounds like you guys got into some serious fish after we left on Tuesday...I totally forgot about that double header last Sunday and it was unbelievable....Glad you made it back safe and try and send some pics, via e-mail to me and Bender when you get a chance!!
