Shore Fishing - Ottawa area

Post by wrangler »

Hi. I am new to Ottawa and looking for fishing spots within the area. I am looking for pier fishing or shore fishing as I do not have a boat, waders, tubes, or any flotation devices. Species is not too important either. Just rookie angler(s) looking to take the family out for a day trip.

Thanks in advance!

The Rideau River before it dumps into the Ottawa River downtown and all along the walking/bike paths up to the Bronson bridge is worth a look for someone who wants to hit the water from the shore. TIP: Evenings are best   ...also if you like to wade make sure you wear waders or you're likely to end up with a case of swimmer's itch (lots of ducks in this area).

Tight Lines,

Get you started

Welcome to Ottawa and to fishing.
to get you started , have a look at this link from ministry of natural resources:
1. http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Le ... 65641.html
2. Click on Ottawa River or Rideau River.
When I started last year, I printed all the locations and visited several of them.

Good luck and don't forget to send us your fishing reports.

Cheers

Welcome Wrangler!

You can also try some of the trout farms too!
Depending on how old your kids may be the action at the farms usually keeps em happy!

If you have a car a good spot is the ponds behind Lincoln Fields mall.

If in Gloucester go park up at the Blair road launch and walk along the path. I fished along there for years as a kid growing up in Rothwell Heights.
You can use the 123 or 124 bus to get there.

Also, Long Island lock along the Rideau in Manotick is a great spot too!

Good luck!

Really!? I've past there many times with my bike but it didnt look to promising for fishing.

What kind of species did you catch there, i need to know a few more close shore fishing spots!

Farmerkid: There are all kinds of weed beds and such along that very long stretch of path!

The weedbed to the right of the launch holds pike and the odd transient musky.

Also if you follow the path to the left it'll take you up to the Sailing club.
Alot of bass in the dock areas.

Also, the pathway is rocky. There are Eye's at night and the baitfish used to come in around 6. I am sure with that rocky area it would produce smallies too. Duck island is right across.

It's been many years so I could be WAY off!

Hope this helps!

I fished at the Blair launch a couple times last year. I stopped because it seemed to be a common hang out for teens and their weed and this was during the week in the afternoon. :? And if you didn't see them, you could smell it. And their buddies would be skipping rocks on the water.

Maybe further away from the launch, the fishing might be OK.

thanks Jamsers, i'll try it out soon. :D

Until know the only good shore fishing spot that i knew was at the mouth of greens creek. I had tried along the bikepath on the rocky shoreline and came up with nothing. i guess i'll have to look more closely for those weedbeds!

Hahahaha!

I was one of those teens! We used to have bush parties all the time!
Good ol days of the early 90`s!
There used to be this hippy and his son who`d camp out there all the time too!

Well teens are braver these days! I mean afternoon? C`mon! Sheesh!
At least we`d wait till Fri/Sat night to get rowdy!
