Lac Ste-Marie report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Lac Ste-Marie report

Post by Big Bass 444 »

A few weeks back it was confirm that the first bass outing of the season on the Quebec side would appen @ Lac Ste-Marie. It was a first for me and my partner Jig Head. While making some reaserch last winter on this lake I came up with an important fact; Ste-Marie is classified one of the best 5 LMB lake in Quebec with large specimen potential.

We got to the lake just before 6 am with hope.... hope to come up face to face with a 7+ pounder. Knowing for a fact that some 7 pounders where caught @ Ste-Marie in the past years was enough to make us verry anxious anglers.

To make a long story kind of short we caught over 80 LMB. Many 3 pounders.....but ..there is a but!

We both add a chance @ some major league specimen. The first one went for Jig head @ around 10am.It was raining @ that point and the winds where picking up. It came to the boat half of her large body came out of the water and she did o few head shake ...and she was gone!!! Jig Head got really upset @ that point and with reason....I won't go about the size of the fish...but I had a real good idea of it's size. A few hours lather it was my turn! This time this LMB came @ about 5 feets from the boat and just bumped myb lure and showed me her all body......it was the first time in my life I had goose bumps while LMB fishing...so I guess I don't have anything left to say about the size of that fish.

Everything that was said about that lake and LMB...I was able to confirm yesterday......I will return no questions about it. I would like to thank Jig Head for such a great time. It is allways a pleasure to fish with you dude!
Don't worrie man they will still be there next time!!

Sure was a great day out on the water for opener minus the hard pounding rain in the early morning. There was many decent sized bass caught but a heck of alot of fish were missed that day and im still trying to figure out why. Will be there soon to try and get my PB 6 plus.

To be Honest I fished this exact spot where you are in the pictures hahah!

For me Lac Ste. Marie has been quite poor this year for Walleye. There are many Bass and Perch and Panfish in the area you took your picture in. But the actual main lake Ste. Marie has been not so good. I caught one small walleye near that culvert in your picture but on the Lac Ste. Marie side.

Beautiful lake though. I wish to try fishing in the Gatineau river as it connects to Lac Ste. Marie. Did you know that area is over 150 ft deep in some areas of the river leading up stream?

It's a wonderful spot....

Take Care,
