Brown Trout could probably live in the back channel of Manotick from the Manotick Mill Dam down to the Long Island Dam and even a bit below that near the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority Trails and Beryl Gaffney Park.
It's quite trouty, has alot of pebbles on the bottom, and some vegetation but not those nasty types of weeds bass and pike hang out in.
Water is a little bit too warm though, but compared to the Ottawa it is pretty close.
Predators would probably eat them all up though.
About 30 years ago my dad's friend caught a brown trout in Mud Creek which is just south of the place where you will be flyfishing if you come out here. Nowadays mud creek has fallen prey to housing developments and is now very very muddy, and trout can't live in it. There are alot of fallfish in it though, you will catch fallfish by the trillion in there....
I wonder why they haven't tried Stocking the Rideau near the Barnsdale Road Bridge.....It's accessible for fly fishing and very shallow under the Barnsdale bridge, and seems like good trout habitat.
Very rapidy all the way up to Manotick Mill, but there are some deep holes along the way where the river becomes less quick and there are a hell of alot of Muskie in them.....There is a park just south from the Barnsdale bridge on the river, and down there, there is tons of Muskie and big Pike. It's very deep and slower moving....Not somewhere I would like to swim!
To everyone who is able bodied, you should come out and fish this. I won't be there because of my lungs but I would be happy if yall would come out to Manotick and enjoy the areas great fishing opportunities.
It's only about 5 minutes from Barrhaven max. It's not as far as people seem to think. Everyone assumes it's in the sticks/country but it's only 5 mins from Barrhaven and 5 mins from Riverside South. Well worth the drive too, cuz the fishing is great!
Enjoy Manotick's great fishing!
