Only Small Fish??
Anton, I'm sympathetic to your plight however, the Rideau is FULL of big fish! Check out the latest bass tournament results of the SEBO tournament this past weekend. The winners weighed in 5 bass for 20.96lbs!! Impressive for any body of water, an amazing weight for the Rideau, considering all the pressure that body of water gets. Of the 48 teams entered, only 5 failed to bring in a limit.Anton88 wrote:yeah.. in a bunch of weeds.muskymatt wrote:![]()

You have to fish where the fish are!!!!!![]()
20 feet to thet left of where you were![]()
There are only small fish left in that river man...
I have not seen one carp jump or pass by, only tiny bass and a ton-load of Sunfish ..
I'm pee pee. All the good locations are far away from ottawa.
(for me a good location is a Clean lake or river that is full of fish, that has deep water, good fishing spots, and a place to park your car...
you might know them better ...
*** Tell me a few places less then 100km away, (that not many people know of)..that are clean, (where you can eat the fish)...and "where you are Likely to get a Walleye or a Pike on your 2nd cast!" (from shore)
I'm sure there are a few guys who can tell you that some big musky still inhabit that river, especially in the fall. The river continues to produce excellent sized musky, as well as big carp. Some carp fishermen I'm sure can attest to the impressive size these fish can attain in the Rideau.
Shore fishing the Rideau is difficult at best because of the heavy weed cover hugging much of the shoreline. I'm lucky to have a boat but, I no longer bass fish the Rideau in the summer because the boat traffic has become far too annoying.
Check out a map of the area, the fishing less than 2 hours from the city of Ottawa is limitless and impressive, ask any American fisherman vacationing in the area! They can tell you a few stories about water that is empty of fish. Get away from the Rideau if it doesn't produce, there is plenty of other water to try.
Don't give up, try a different body of water. Good luck, I'm sure it'll turn around for you.

He got the only pike left...
Staying all day at the same spot just to catch one decent fish does not make make my day...
I'd rather have continuous action,..then one big fish
ohh, and at Lapointe you don't get Walleye, Pike, Bass or other great freshwater fish

So it is not where you fish!! It must be how you fish
Anton I keep reading your posts and you are always asking questions and when we reply with suggestions, you shoot us down. So why do you keep asking us questions????
You could go fish at Petrie and you would probably catch a lot of fish there. Most of us do catch and release so we pretty well fish anywhere. But the Rideau and the Ottawa the fish are edible as long as you follow the Fish eating guideline book.

There are fish in the Rideau.........You just had bad luck it seems. If you want somewhere you can eat the fish from, try Big Rideau Lake.
At my fav spot on the Rideau, you can see a huge herd of Carp moving up and down the river sucking the bottom. They hang out in big schools, it's rather interesting. Back when I was a teen they were about 40-50lbs, but now it seems they are more like 15-30 usually. They still roam the rideau in herds, sucking the bottom.
Also, I have seen many schools of bass, and panfish.
I have seen Muskie, Pike and everything else.
I even caught a Muskie at the Manotick Mill Dam years ago. We saw a huge fish laying on the bottom and thoguht it was dead so we put our hook down and the thing ate it and boom it was fighting like crazy...
When we got it out of the water we didn't know what to do with it and someone had to help us get it off because we were young and scared of it's huge teeth.
Manotick has alot of boat traffic.........so.....what are you doing fishing where the boats are...........you said you are shore fishing too......your first mistake is fishing the Long Island locks type places......Sure the fishing can be good, but it can be very very slow..
For Manotick, all I can say is fish the areas the boats can't navigate...
And also consider trying the Landing where the Jock empties into the Rideau.....I haven't fished it for a while but it's popular and might be a good spot.......
You can actually go into a little hamlet called Hearts Desire and you can have acess to the river from many trails.....This is near stonebridge........
Fishing the jock in that area is productive.....
And as the guy below me said......If you don't enjoy the overall experience why bother?
I love just being beside the river in my chair, and tying on new lures to try to catch fish.....I love staying until dark and watching the sun go down as the fish get more active...........
The experience is eveerything.........Getting there, setting up, fishing, enjoying the weather, enjoying the experience is what fishing is about....
FISHING IS ADVENTURE!!......finding places that work and ones that don't....dont' get so discouraged..there are good places to fish in manotick.....

Fishing requires patience.
You need to appreciate that the reward of fishing is the experience itself, and the anticipation of catching, while the actual catching of a dandy fish is only icing on the cake.
I fished Lac Seul about 12 years ago, and for two days (even mid-day) nearly every cast resulted in a 1 to 6lb pickerel. While the first 2 hours were fun, it was actually not my most memorable fishing experience, because it was just too easy. There didn't seem to be any challenge in it.
Unless you can learn to enjoy the experience of fishing, as opposed to simply catching, I would recommend that you pursue a different hobby that does not require a time investment or patience.

Alright so let me get this straight. Looking for a body of water with:
- Not a lot of weeds
- Close to Ottawa
- Has to be a clean lake
- Has to be full of fish
- Has to be deep
- Has good fishing
- Has parking
- Less than 100 km away
- Not very known
- Contains edible fish
- Not downtown
- Has to be from shore
- And must get a pike and 'eye on 2nd cast
What am I missing?
