What to do with a Big Fish ???

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

What to do with a Big Fish ???

Post by weekend warrior »

I was thinking about what I would do if I ever caught that monster from the deep... some giant, almost-record-breaking fish. What can I say? It's a slow day at work

What would you guys do?

Pictures, Measurments, and repeat... take lots of PICS... and get a replica mount done so that the fish lives both in lake and pride(wall)!!!

Unfortunately for a record breaking fish you would need to have it weighed on a certified scale, typically not found on a boat. As such you'd probably be releasing a dead fish.

I would take a few pictures and release it. If I had caught a 'World' record or even a province wide record that would be different, I might put it on the wall. Always let the big ones go.

I totally forgot that you could get a replica mount. I think that'd be my choice... whole lotta pics and get a replica done. OR I bet there's some artist somewhere who would do a painting (kinda like the ones that do paintings of pets) ... that'd be cool, a painting of a fish that you once caught in its natural habitat. Now where did I put those shots of the 6oz. Perch I caught last year :D

As for an actual world or province record size fish... I'm not sure :?

I'm CPR all the way. Catch, lots of pics and then release. I'm not into bragging or telling all my friends/acquaintances all about my fishing trophies. As long as I know what my personal best is, I'm happy. Up until now I don't have all that much to brag about but when I do I'll gladly take out the pictures if anyone asks. Otherwise I'll keep them in my head until my old age when I can relax with a line in the water and look back on all my hours spent fishing. Of course by then the fish will have grown in my mind to at least twice the size and the struggle will have been monumental (thank goodness for pictures).

Myself the only fish I would keep to put on my wall would be a walleye over 16lbs. And it would be a skin mount.

big fish

6lb or larger largemouth or 7lb or larger smallmouth on the wall, no glass mount. Everything else, back in the drink. This may not be a popular choice but I don't like the fibreglass mounts. This would also be the only two choices for mounting.
