Engine noise

Post by Muskie4L »

hey guys I have an 04 60 hp merc 4 stroke and the last two times out it started to make a chirping sound after about 3 hrs trolling. got to the point where it sounded like a belt slipping so we came off the water (that was the first time) then yesterday I took it out for a test run before going fishing in the after noon and not a sound, so we went out hunting ski's and after 3 hrs again the chirp started. This time we stopped right away and did some casting for a while and when we started motoring again everything was fine :?: Do these motors have problems oiling at low rpms? any pointers would be great.

When I bought the motor last year it had only 45 hrs on it according to the computer

If you suspect the belt, try a bit of belt dressing before you go out the next time.

My Merc chirps when the oil level is getting low.

Just a thought.
