hey everyone just bought my first bait caster a diawa twiching reel and a berkley lightning rod
but i was wondering if i should be useing braided or monfilent line
does it make any difference
thanks alot
walleye man
If this is your first baitcaster, expect to make a lot of bird nests. With braided, I would say it is impossible to remove these bird nests without wasting all the line. I would try with some smooth line like Trilene XL or similar for now until you are more comfortable with the new caster.
Here's a tip that may help when you're first using a baitcaster. When casting, release at 11:00 and at the same time rotate the reel 90 degrees so that the handle is straight up.
thanks guys im kinda getting used to it no birdsnests yet
but its bound to happen but right now im just useing some cheep omar or something till i get used to it
Well i got my first baitcaster about 2 weeks ago or so, and i put some 30lb braid on it...i got some bird nests...about hmm...15...they are not that hard to untangle, or maybe i just got good after the 10th one I got one really bad bird nest, i had to cut off a little bit of line.
Stiffer line is easier to untangle from a bird's nest. Hence using Fluro might ease the pain. Cause braid is soft, a really bad bird's nest will actually have the line dig into the spool.
