Hi all
I have just recieved an 18 ft. Lund from my brother-in-law as a gift. He works in NWT's and makes way too much money...anyway he gives me a boat while I am visiting him in Nova Scotia. I have never registered a boat before....how do I begin. How do I tackle the tax issue? The boat was registered and has numbers on the bow.
Thanks for any help.
Regards,

If he gave it to you you might want to get a notarized paper before you leave down there.
The rest is pretty easy. Got to go to a Governement of Canada kiosk and get the boat transfered to your name. Then to the MTO office to get the trailer registered to your name. With a notarized piece of paper saying that you haven't paid anything for it you shouldn't have to pay any taxes. But if you don't have one of those you might have an issue getting away with not paying the taxes because they will ask for a receipt. You B-I-Law should have all the registration papers for the boat.
