Shore fishing group?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Pikeman,

Most of the folks bring live baits , good success with the minnows.

However, I'm more into artificial baits. While I'm no veteran fisherman, here are the lures that worked for us this year, in no specific order:
1. Canadian wiggler ( good results, my buddy swears by it, I don't )
2. Wacky rigged senko ( My go-to lure in tough times :-) )
3. Big O
4. Jointed Cottel corden crank
5. some other deep diving crank, can't remember

What never worked over there for us is:
1. Spinnerbait
2. wally diver crank
3. jigged tube
4. Spoons

We could have been doing some things wrong, this is not a definitive guide.

Today however, I'm planning to try something new for me (crawfish). The trick is really to try something other than what people normally use, this spot is over-fished and fish get to see all the lures and tricks all the time.

Good luck, hope we can run into you for a quick chat.

I start my 2 week vacation today exactly at 5 PM. :D
I'm available any time early morning through late evening for anyone who wants company or a netman.
Send me a PM and we can arrange something.

Anyone else have plans for the weekend? I can't make it tonight, but Sat, Sun, Mon are all possible. At a minimum, I'll be heading somewhere tomorrow morning.

Dow on Saturday

Post by tallpaul »

I got out Saturday afternoon for a few hours and fished around Dows Lake. Came away with 2 fish, one in the 12-14" range and another that was definitely in my top 3 biggest LM's ever. Probably 22" range and 3+lbs. Bad timing though... caught it with my camera in its case, in a plastic bag, in my backpack... with no one around to help out.
Anyway, only 2 fish, but that one made it entirely worth it. And only one bad birdnest! Not too bad for a first outting! ;-)

My lure got a bit destroyed in the process though, so I'll be picking up another one of those fairly soon!

Cheers,

I'm about to head back to Dow's lake... I'm going to find that fish again and I'll have my camera ready!

Cheers.

Update - I caught one LMB, about 12" by the docks that are north/east of the pavilion. Slow afternoon, but better than not fishing at all. I had a few good blow-ups fishing some slop too, but no hook-ups.

I might join you if the spot isn't too busy. I'll check back later....

Denis, how'd you guys do tonight?
Too bad you can't join us in the boat tomorrow.
Maybe next weekend, or an evening this coming week?

Occasionally... I'm busy this week, but will try to make it out some evening next week.

I'd like to make it out to Morris Island, but the sun is setting earlier and I might not have enough time in the evening to make it there with enough time to fish.

Happy to get together though. Keep me posted.

Cheers,
