Cleaning a bass
Now I do not eat fish but I have heard a lot of people say they are eating the bass they catch...How would one clean a bass??? Same as a walleye or trout or pike or what???
And also do a lot of people on here eat bass???
One last question....What would you not eat of a fish species???
Thanks

Personally I wouldn't try to eat a bass. Just because I hear they don't taste good. But who knows, you never know unless u try right? Maybe it will be the best thing on earth......but probably not..
I hear smallies are better than largies, but that could just be rumours....
I won't try Carp....just because they are the spawn of Satan....
Won't eat sucker......... etc...
I'll eat pike, if it's battered....i'll eat perch, sunfish, rock bass (if battered)...
Hell i'll eat anything with beer batter! Just not bass or carp or suckers....But who eats suckers or carp? not many

I have eaten bass - the lake my brother had a cottage on only had bass in it, and the kids wanted to try eating what they had caught
I filleted the fish the same way you would for a walleye, although walleye seemed to be much easier to fillet for me
In terms of taste I thought it was great, not quite walleye but definitely not bad. I found no difference between SM/LM - however we only kept smaller fish (3/4 - 1.5 lbers)

Bone structure is the same as walleye and perch so the same methods work but the skin is a bit tougher to cut through. I did the fillet method vice the way it was done in the video and it came out nice and bone free.
Small Mouth for the most part live in the same habitat as walleye and eat the same stuff. I have tried it and it is not the same as walleye but not bad either. I found the texture to be a bit softer but very light and flaky. I fried it up with nothing more than butter and spices.

I wouldn't eat Largemouth, Carp, Sucker or Gar, but I would eat Eel Pout even though they are equally as ugly as Carp. I hear Eel Pout are actually VERY good tasting.
I don't eat many fish, only in the winter ice fishing. The fish I keep to eat in the winter are Walleye, Sauger and Perch.
I find saltwater fish much better to eat anyway (personally). I don't really like the taste of freshwater fish (whether there bass, trout or anything in between).

I'll eat the odd Bass every year and find them delicious, but I will not eat them if they have worms. Most of the small mouth around here come end of july have worms. Easy to tell just lift the gill and you can see blue dots. Usually means worms. Some people I know still eat them just pick them out.
As far as cleaning them I clean the same as walleye. Don't forget to split fillet lenght wise and remove than center line of snot. Here are the ones I ate last.

Cheers happy eating

to mitch 24 Please give me a list of the saltwater fish that you have eaten that tastes better than walleye, bass,or pike. I go to florida in the winter for 6 months. The best saltwater fish i have eaten was grouper & on a scale of 1 to 10 i would rate it at 5 compared to our fresh water fish
Bassman3840,
I've fished Fla. the last few years.
This year I really wanted to catch a nice pompano.
I had been hearing how they were supposed to be one of the
best eating saltwater fish.
Anyways, I catch a nice one, fillet it, put it in a foil packet on the bbq..........the anticipation is building as I tell my wife how good these are supposed to be.........we both take a bite and......disappointment
On a scale of 1-10 I'd say may be a 6.
I certainly take a perch, crappie or bluegill over it any day.
Next year I'm thinkink of trying one of the topsail catsish...supposed to be good eating too
