Going fishing with a couple of friends to Charleston lake in 2 weeks, any help on what to expect and what to use for bass and or pike would be very helpful, thanks.. Bob
Great lake for smallies Bob. I fish there a lot. I'd work the shoals at about 15-25 feet for water. I know the die hard fisherman would be upset with me for the suggestion but live minnows work best there for both bass and pike. You may pick up the occasional laker as well at that depth this year. I know I have. I use a couple of split shots about 2/12 feet up from the hook. Try this and I guarantee you will pick up smaillies in the 3 - 5 pound range. Lots of people having luck off of flat island.

Thanks for some info. Fish with lures basically, will try some drop shot of tubes at those depths. Wondering what kind of lake it is,never been there before, is it weedy, rocky or both? Imagine its a clear lake with the depths i see on some maps. Thanks for any and all info guys. Bob
The lake is clear , deep, rocky and relatively cold compared to other area lakes.
The Outlet end of the lake has the largest area of weedy locations and flat Island.
There are about 100 island (according to the MNR)
I have found the good ol' Husky Jerk to be a great LMB and pike lure on Charleston. Break out the deep divers.
Smallmouth will be relating to deep points and shoals. Dropshottin', shakey jigs, tubes....a fat and sassy shinner minnow.
