Early Ice Report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Early Ice Report

Post by bradford2 »

Well, early ice is upon us. Everyone says it's supposed to be the best time of year right? The fish are easy pickins...... well..... I find it to be hit or miss just like any time else

So far been on 6 or so boddies of water this year and only 2 of them have worked out, and one was Petrie so that doesn't count

The crappie like to co-operate at least

Got out exploring some other lakes west of the city with a few buds. Our search was fruitless, but the day was filled with these tasty fruit anyway..... spicy venison sausages for the boys......

Image

So that didn't work out so well, back to the slabs. Had a good day Friday fishing for them. Spent 8 hours on one hole... gotta love that 8) Fish got pretty aggressive at times and were hitting a 1/4 oz flyer spoon like it was there last meal. Basically I switched back and fourth between that and a ratso.......

Then yesterday it was another tour in the west end.

Found a few perch for dinner.......

And kept myself busy making a couple lunches

So, can't complain. That will be it for me until the new year, going to be a long wait!

Excellent pics. Good to see you found some decent keeper perch for dinner, there's nothing better. :D

Oh yeah, good secondary use of the buddy heater

Amen to that Brad...I've found the early ice to be very puzzling also. I spend more time hunting for fish than catching fish   ! If there is a part of the season I like I'd say late January to early February and then again in March since the weather is so nice and the ice so thick :D !

Tight lines and catch a few for me, eh!

I love your way of live guys. In my country (Germany) Ice fishing is forbidden at the most lakes. The cause is the safety. Our winters got very warm and so we don´t have strong ice.
Well.....I think it´s the true when I say "WE MISS THE SNOW THIS YEAR"!
