any off you looking for GPS..?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Just started looking at a few ads for GPS as an idea for the hubby. Are there any advantages to a Garmin vs. a Tom Tom?? I am clueless.

Loading Maps to my Garmin GPSmap 76CX????

Billy Dee wrote:Hey,

I have a Garmin GPSmap 60Cx. I seem to have fixed the problem. I had to remove and reload the software on my computer to get it to open the topo maps from the site listed above and it worked like a charm. Something didn't load right I guess. Now, works great.

Now I'm wondering if there are some free navigation or bathymeteric charts out there. IF anyone knows of a site or, if there is a database that I can build my own from please let me know. I can't wait to get out on the water with this unit and track some fishing spots and trends.

Thanks,
Billy.
Hey Billy or Stangman1990, how do I load the Ibycus maps to my Garmin 76CX??......I saved the Ibycus winzip file to my PC...not sure where to go from here :? :? ...any help would be appreciated!!

Hi Wolfe
There are more custom maps available for Garmin than for any other GPS. Tomtom has other features that a standard Garmin mapping GPS does not have, for example being able to "inform" others of your location via Cell, but especially, the screen is better for use while driving.

If the intended purpose is for hunting/fishing, then a Garmin handheld would be advantageous. If intent is for a navigation aid while driving, then a Tomtom would be preferable. Note that Garmin Nuvi's are similiar to the Tomtom in this regard.

Did you download the .zip or the .iso?

If .iso then you need to burn a DVD or mount it using software like Daemon Tools, if a zip then just extract it to a folder. Once you have it extracted or mounted then install using the setup program, can't remember if it's setup.exe or install.exe, it will be something like that. Once installed you should have an Ibycus drop down available in MapSource (this is the software that came with your GPS or you downloaded from Garmin.com... this has to be installed and updated first). Select Ibycus from the dropdown and highlight the areas on the map you want to send to you GPS. Once you have all the areas highlighted, then under the transfer menu select send to device.
