which rod would you choose?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

ok...we all know there are a dozen decent rod and reel manufaturers to choose from, but if you could ONLY have 1 rod and reel to use, what would you choose? assuming that we're talking about Bass, Walleye, Pike here...lets not get into other species, those are the most common i would think.

A fast action 9 ft, 4pc, 8wt from any of the major rod companies and the cheapest mid-arbor reel I could find. It can catch and land a 14" rainbow, a 4lb LMB or a 36" pike.

I'm loving my G Loomis rods, the jury is still out on reels but have generally good experience with Shimano baitcasters.

A 7'1" G.Loomis GLX paired up with a Pflueger Patriarch.

But soon a Shimano Cumara with a Shimano Curado!

I'd say whether it's brand A...B....or C, as long as it feels good in your hand, decent craftmanship, warranty and not too hard on the wallet....that's what you should be looking for.

When I was in the biz, I could never understand the guys that would come in and buy a $500.00 combo and use it once or twice a year max!!! It was the same guys that would look at me like I was from Mars when I'd recommended something middle of the road.

Lotsa options out there and I'm sure there will be certain brands plugged here

shimano reel...probably the curado E5 or E301

i own 3 GL3's, 2 GL2's, and a Bronzeback rod....but i just love the over-the-counter from the Shimano....

It's an impossible question. I haven't tried all of them out.....

But the next rod I'm buying is a crucial. I held the Compre in my hands and though, wow, this is really nice. Then picked up the Crucial. Oops.

Oh and if I could only have 1? Probably have to go with a spinning rod, even though it's what I use the least normally.

But I think I could pretty much fish for anything that swims with say a 6'6" MH........

Cuz trolling is for people who don't know how to jig
Kidding of course......
