truck through the ice at Petrie???
I think of the woman that went through with her ranger at the crap plant on Nippissing. This is an area where every year snowmachines and vehicles go in. It's like clock-work, newsflash "vehicle break through ice on nippissing" everyone replies "at the treatment plant?" She was on Canada AM the next morning saying that there needed to be signs because it was such an unsafe area, and that is was the mayor who wasn't willing to do anything. Fact is, vehicles aren't covered for insurance on the ice and nobody else should be liable for someones poor judgement. Ice safety can fluctuate daily, especially when warm temperatures and wind become involved (example, Lake Erie this week). For me, it is also important for people driving their 2WD vehicles on the ice, if you're not able to get yourself unstuck, don't bother coming out and risking the possibility of someone hurting themself trying to help you because of your lack of good judgement in the first place.
Just to add,
Does ice really uniformly thicken?
I mean just because its 20" in one spot does not just mean that its 20 inches 20 ft away? I don't know?!
I agree with everyone's post. If you venture on the ice you need to stay where its "safest". If you see there aren't tracks in one place then chances are its for a reason..
As for posting area's that are unsafe. I agree that is a double edge sword. Some will take the warning but obviously some will think its a honeyhole being hidden....
Sad to hear about trucks going through...especially if they aren't insured...ouch!!!

No it doesn't James....not by a long shot......current...underwater springs...bottom structure all play factors in ice thickness.....Jamsers wrote:Just to add,
