Great Time
What a great weekend ! (except for my back that was killing me
)
A special thanks to Fishhawk, Bobber and all those that help make this weekend a great fishing memory.
After getting to Muskrat on Thursday morning I headed out on the water with my aqua-vue camera and started checking out some of the water. Found a few good sand flats that came up from deep (120ft) water and held lots of bait fish. I also put the camera down through a school of Smelt and just under the school you could see Lakers crusing around the 40 foot mark. So I had my game plan for friday and headed in to enjoy the fire pit and fishing talk with all of the Hawk crew.
Friday morning came and my back was on holiday...man it hurt to laugh, and with this crew that is a very hard task not to do
. I took SteveG and Clipper out in the morning and we tried the down riggers at 40ft for 3hours with spoons, cut bait and also a crank runing at 20 feet (just below the bait fish schools) We had one small pike hit the clown husky jerk at 20 ft. After 3 hours and frozen from the cold front and north wind we headed back to camp for some food and hot coffee. I spent the rest of the day on land because my back was not up to the pounding or rocking of the waves
. It was great to fish with Clipper and SteveG and do some techie talk
.
Mick saved the day on Friday night when he gave me some medication for my back...
On Saturday I took out Mick and Sandy after their boat motor stopped working. We worked the sand flats in the heavy chop where a mudline had started to form from the waves. We drag'd jigs and minnows with a control drift and caught at least one fish with every pass. Sandy caught a nice 5 pound walleye in 9 feet of water and Mick managed to loose 3 really nice fish with bite offs (I don't think he will ever use Vanish line again
) After changing line in the afternoon Mick still lost another 3 fish with bite offs.
Sandy's nice walleye caught on a orange jig and shinner minnow.

We had a great day with more fish in the evening trolling, shared some great fishing stories and caught at least 15 nice size 24-28 inch pike for the day.
I am looking forward to the fall trip
( I am heading to the doctors office to stock up on meds)
Thanks to all for a great weekend!

Wish I had more time to put in a proper post, but somehow I managed to come back to work with a stack of paper on my desk that makes Big O's planner board mast look like popsickle stick. So much for 'vacation'.
But I really want to give credit where credit is due. Fish-Hawk and Bobber, you guys put on a 'A' class show. Thanks for all of the hard work. The accomodations were excellent and the food superb. The entertainment not too bad either. I appreciate you guys taking the time out of your weekend to ensure we were all comfortable and having fun. We appreciate the fact that you guys were stuck in the kitchen or shackled to a BBQ, and we certainly appreciate that.
Had the pleasure of fishing with Bobber Thur afternoon and it was a treat. You are welcome in my boat any day of the week.
Also finally got to fish with JimW who will be partner for BAOO. Also a pleasure and am looking forward to the upcoming season.
And I got to spend some much need quality time fishing and catching up with Bacon. The campfire would not have been the same without him
.
And to all whom I met I just want to say that everyone of you are quality people. I count you among my friends and looking forward to seeing you again. My only regret is that the trip was so short and I did not get a chance to partner up with everyone. And I wish I hadn't been fighting that headache, it was really clouding my brain (I can actually play some songs on the guitar you know).
See you on the water guys, and I'll definitely at next year's spring event. So, I'll see you there, if not sooner on the water.
Now I have to go dry out.

A great time was had by all... me included.
I would also like to thank Bobber, Hawk, and Jazman for all the hard work involved with keeping me fed and happy.
I met an incredible bunch of people this weekend. Generous, friendly and very funny!
I'd like to give a special thanks to BTS. It takes a special person to offer a complete stranger a ride in your boat for a whole weekend. I learned a lot from him, especially about wally's which I have never targetted before.
Here's an example of the training.
CRACKER: Hey, Brian, I'm getting this weird 'tap, tap, tap' on my line?
BTS: SET THE HOOK!
CRACKER: Too late.... sorry....
Thanks again to everyone for making me feel welcome.

My compliments to FishHawk and Bobber for creating such a fun event and to Jazman for all his work as well.
Great food all weekend, not only as scheduled but also complimentary extras from some of the guests who brought fish along, like Markus with his smoked fish sampler basket and Big-o with his load of crappie as examples.
The steak on Friday was excellent and for those who haven't tried deep fried turkey that was on the Saturday menu....wow it's great! I think some of the guests are going to get their own special deep fryers for turkey.
The conversation and resulting entertainment all weekend was a hoot, from the campfires, to the cabin get-togethers and the talk around the food tent and the docks.
What an incredible group of fishermen we had for a great weekend of fun!!!
Thanks for the weekend........
