Wolfe Island

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Wolfe Island

Post by scttsmpsn »

I am going camping at Wolfe Island in 3 weeks. My friends says this of where we are staying.

We are right on Lake Ontario, ummm when you get off ferry boat on Wolfe Island it is on opposite side. We go down by "the foot" of the island.

She doesn't fish. Can anyone tell me what I might find; lures, etc. I will be fishing from shore.

Cheers,

Scott

By any chance is the place your staying called Hi-Lo Hickory campground. If so my relatives own and run the campground and I will make a call to see if they have any suggestions.

Did a quick look around on the Wolfe Island website .. here is what they said about fishing from shore.

"Wolfe Island has very few areas where one can fish from shore, as most waterfront is privately owned. However occasionally bullheads can be caught in the marshy area on the 2nd line road near Little Sandy Bay and also near the canal on Highway 96 at the turnoff to the winter ferry dock at Dawson’s Point."

You should be able to stop into any of the few stores in town to ask the locals for more information. There is a small general store just off the boat, take a right , named Fargo's General Store (I think) that sells tackle. Probably a good place to start. I have seen lot's of people fish from the ferry dock as well. If you can get a boat try putting in at the Winter dock. It's been a few years since I fished there but we had some success with Walleye and Pike. As a kid I never had any success from shore at the campground .. but then again I was 10 and probably using nuts and bolts for bait.

Good Luck!

We are staying on private property. Not sure of where except near the "foot" of the island. My friends aunts house is supposedly haunted; perhaps you know of a haunted house on Wolfe Island. Thanks for the help.

Cheers,

Both Reeds Bay and Big Sandy have good bass in them at that time of year. Not sure about shore fishing, though. There's only a couple of feet of water along most of the foot of the island, with a few exceptions. I'll see if I can find out about the location of the "haunted house", to help pinpoint where you will be staying. My guess is you'll be somewhere around Staley Point.
