Bass anglers what are you spooling with this year and why?

Well I guess we can go about so many opinions about what is best and what is better for all fishing condition in the ''Bass world". Like tires on a car the choice you make when it comes to spooling up can make a big difference on how you will succeed on the water. The choice you make not only needs to suit the water conditions and fishing strategies but mostly your capability to handle the line you will be fishing with. For example some anglers might have problems fishing with braid because of their ability to control this product in baitcasting reels.

So what about mono???....Fluoro lines??? How do they fit you in clear water conditions???....stain water??stumps???...weeds???....trees???..distances???

So, to suit all these different conditions what do you do???? ....do you keep 10 rods spooled with all different line types and size??.....or do you have a choice that will fairly suit most conditions???

What do you think is the best brands and why?

I experimented a bit the past couple of years. This year I will be sticking with the tried and true.

50lb Power Pro (flippin and froggin)
Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (all spinning) and #12 (cranks and spinnerbaits)

If I do feel like trying something new this year, I picked up a bunch of the Yo-Zuri Hybrid when it was on sale at BPS, at the price I couldn't resist, so I'll be giving it a try and after hearing lots of good things I'm considering trying Trilene 100% Flouro.

40-50 lb Power Pro (Frogging, Flipping)
Power Pro plus a fluro leader (Cranking, jerk baits, spinnerbaits)
P-Line fluro (Drop shot, wacky senko)

So are you back now? I never saw the official "I'm back on FH" thread......

I think the only line I don't use is straight mono. I use braid for most things but have started using flouro now as well. And of course braid with flouro leaders as well.

I like the spiderwire stealth and pline flouroclear (so far).

note to self throw ALL FIRELINE product in garbage.....

buy all POWERPRO product this year!

reason : fireline damages reels...

50 lbs test POPWERPRO for froggin........... now thats what i call ripping them out of the weeds!

what pound test do you guys use for fluoro leaders on braid??

and how do you tie them?(fluoro leaders)

Baitcasters have 30-50# Spiderwire Ultracast, with a 4' 25# Seaguar fluoro leader.
Spinning outfits have 20-25# Spiderwire Ultracast with a 15-20# Seaguar fluoro leader.

I try to match diameter so 50lb PowerPro with 12-15lb fluro....makes tying the knot easier....if that's possible.

I swear I will have to grow a 3rd arm to help me tie these double uni knots.

do a search for surgeon knot.

or go to gettinghooked.net

they'll show how to tie it.

it is, by far, the easiest and strongest way to tie a flouro lead to braid.

It seems most are in agreement;

50 lb power pro for flippin' & frogging.

20-30 lb power pro on spinning rods / tubes for smallies.

20 lb P-line Copolymer on baitcasting rod / spinnerbaits.

Flouro line for crankbaits.

8-10 lb power pro on spinning for drop-shotting.

I agree Brad....I must have missed the 25 votes he needed....

Flippin sticks....20 pound P-line straight mono...

Frog rod....50 Pound Power Pro....

Drop Shot...10 pound P-line...

Cranks and spinnerbaits....12 Pound P-Line Fluro...

Tubes and Senkos....30 pound Power Pro and 18 pound Seaguar Fluro leader...

I use these setups in every condition.....clear or stained...

I went to straight mono last year on my flippin sticks...had no issue pulling any fish out of any junk.....

Double Uni knot for braid to fluro...

Poor fishies!

6&8lb Trilene XL on spinning rods.

14lb Trilene XL on a few casting rods.

50lb Power Pro on a few casting rods.

Upgrading to 100lb Power Pro for the Muskie rods.

I don't use the word "Official'' on FH

but pulling back for a little while is allways a good thing.

......helps improving rules on FH

I have used Power Pro for a long time now and only Power Pro. 100% Faitfull to it.
But wait!!! Trilene 100% Flouro added with Kevin Van Dame Line and Lure conditioner......a serious must!!!!!......my # 1 choice since last year!!!

Are you guys tournament fishermen? that is pretty heavy weight for the lines spooled. I use just straight mono (Stren) 4 to 20 pounds. I realize that when fishing slop I have to check frequently for frayed line.I assume that is one of the reasons for your heavier spooling and perhaps easier hook-sets??

30lb. Power Pro on everything else.
