Quebec Map Project (31 Mile Lake)

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hey Bill. I'm curious if there are any northern pike on 31 mile lake and if so how big do they get?

There certainly are! We have a couple cottages up there and I've been going up for serious fishing for the last 5-6 years (ok, I was a flat out newbie for the first couple years, but feel a bit smarter now, almost as smart as the fish), and we typically catch a couple Pike. My normal time to go is around the July 1st long week and I've had most of my luck doing some simple trolling.

If you're aware of the area, I usually fish around Malone bay (south west part of the lake). We've caught a few 5-6lb pike in July with the biggest being my girlfriends complete luck catch of a 7lb pike (she thought it was a log), trolling near the end of the bay. Most of the pike we've caught have been along the north shore just at the mouth of some of the little bays in there.

Some proof:

I was also able to catch a 7lb Lake Trout doing the same thing, and this was about 45 seconds after we started trolling one day.

I put my favourite locations on a google map for those interested:

Now back to work (or at least appearing to work as I can't stop thinking about that place as I'll be there in 2 weeks!)[/img]

I have never fished that bay , I have found the pike to be few and far between , but did see a 18lb caught about a mile from the southern end . I have only been heading up there for 15 years or so and mostly the north end so still have a lot of water to explore , life is hard :D

Pike/Bass at the Lake

Post by Dinger45 »

I actually just found this web site as we are preparing for our yearly trip north to do some fishing. My brother and I have been coming up since 2000 fishing for Pike and Bass in late May or early June. Each year we catch several decent Pike and tons of very good sized bass. I have pics on my laptop which I will post at a later date. Our largest Pike to date was right around the 15lb mark. We have caught several each year over 10lbs. The majority of them have come in Baie Davis and Black Bay which are the northern most bays on the lake. In a weeks worth of fishing we average aprox. 15 pike caught. Bass, forget about it. When we fish strictly for bass we will average 25-50 bass per day. And for some unkown reason all the bass fight like smallies in the river. Both small mouth and large mouth are caught. Our largest largemouth weighed 5lb 12oz anbd the largest smallie was 4lb 12oz.[/img]

There's a shocker....a visitor coming up in late May and early June and raving about the bass fishing......

I think it's time for border crossings to be handing out fishing regulations.

Regulations

Post by Dinger45 »

Yes, you cant specifically target bass this year, in that region, until the 23rd I believe. For the first three years we did not know about not being allowed to fish specifically for out of season fish. In your regulations it's just a one line statement which we never did notice. I know thats not a valid reason, but it's the truth. We didn't know the rule until we were stopped by Fish and Game officers for a check of our boat in our third year. They inquired what we were fishing for. When we told them Pike and Bass they informed us about not being allowed to fish for out of season bass. I should have been more specific but we currently do not specifically fish for bass before the season begins. We do still continue to catch bass while fishing for Pike but do not target them specifically.
