Zanders anyone?

I was hunting down that photo of the "big pike" and stumbled into this site

same family but over in europe. Should see the size of perch they get over there.

Zander??!!?? Wow never heard of them. Thank you for posting. Certainly looks like a walleye.

After a little google research (is that considered research?). It looks like walleye and zander are very closely related (who would have thought).

I guess a few years ago there were a bunch of restaurants in Minnesota serving Zander as walleye on the menu because they were cheaper.

It is on my must do fishing trip list. I think it was about 4 or 5 years ago I read an article in In-Fisherman about Zander fishing in Holland.

I read that article as well, or a similar one about 20 years ago, as well as one about pike fishing in the canals of Amsterdam. The freshwater season in Holland is now very limited (about 3 or 4 months long) for fish they consider game fish(pike, brown trout, zander etc) Carp fishing over there is a year round affair unless there is ice on the water, they're fishing for carp.
Lots of people fish the estuaries along the coast for Zander, Browns, Cod, Sea Bass, and other fish yearround since that is considered salt water. Kinda cool to fish a canalbank and have a giant containership cruise by.

Fishing shops in Holland are a lot different than here, Bolies as far as the eye can see and also lots of salt water surf fishing gear, you still see lots of the same brands as here Rapala, Storm, Berkley, but theres lots of different colour paterns and stuff.
