This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Our traditional spring trip is kind of moved more towards a late spring trip

Will be hitting the St.Lawrence on June 19 for pike with Doug Amos and then well wouldn't you know musky happens to open on June 20.

Coincidence?

It has been a number of years since I went to Georgian Bay Fishing Camp, but it had excellent fishing for walleye, pike and smallmouth. We always cooked our own meals, but the lodge did offer American plan and they had a good cook. The cabins were NOT spectacular, pretty rustic really, but the fishing more than made up for it. The owner was always at the Toronto Sportsmen's Show, and the big walleye in his booth was caught by yours truly some number of years ago - it was twelve pounds on the nose. I suspect Dave (the lodge owner) will be there again this year - look for a man about six foot eight and 350 pounds.

Now that I live in Kingston, there is spectacular fishing within less than an hour of me, and we have not been doing an annual trip. (But I might be tempted by a return to the Gouin Reservoir........)

I'd like to plan a salmon fishing trip and also have thoughts of going back to Gowganda; If I can convince the guide from my last trip to join up . He is very knowledgeable.

I'm heading back to Nemio on the Gouin in August - extending an open invitation to any folks who may want to join in.

My plan is to be there for the month so dates are flexible.

back to McQ...........how do you find the fishing on the Gouin in August? A bunch of us went a few years back, in August, and the fishing was very spotty, or to be blunt it was POOR. The people I know who have fished it a lot go in June and July, and have exceptional fishing.

I forget exactly where we were on the Gouin, it was a houseboat rental and we went in from Parent.

Many areas of the Gouin experience dry spells as the fish do migrate through the system, being a reservoir the fish will seek out areas of deeper water which is relative to the original flooded lakes. Food is the issue as cisco, fall fish, etc are the main forage and as the water warms they do seek out cooler temps.

August is prime time - fish are everywhere in the location I go to. Best bet is midlake shoals and sharp points during the height of the day and shoreline trolling in the evening and I really don't evening fish very often..

I have had 100 + fish days on a jig bite but most times I bottom bounce harnesses, mainly because I like to precision backtroll. Color can be critical at times.

I've fished the Gouin for the past 25 years and have been in most of the areas, where I go now is always very productive throughout the season, there are all the elements to keep it so - main spawning river, structural elements and expanses of water to explore.

Heading to fish the Gulf of Mexico in SW Florida for Pompano, ladyfish and topsail catfish. Hopefully yak the Everglades or Ding Darling Refuge on Sanibel Island and try for snook.

Then to the Sharbot Lake area for some relaxation and bass/pike action.

That's it for this year.

For me the annual trip happens to be to the Bay of Quinte for the opener. 4 family members get together and fish the Kiwanis derby for fun and get to spend quality time together.

So far I have the following plans:

- A spring salmon trip with friends in Port Weller

- Hopefully a few summer time salmon trips out of Port Darlington

- Lake Erie - Each August I visit my parents in Southwestern Ontario they look after the kids and I spend 3 or 4 days fishing with my buddy for Lake Erie walleye. Great fishing, average fish 4 to 5 pounds, best day last year 18 walleye in less than 4 hours

- Pink Salmon Trip - Hopefully head up north for pink salmon for a weekend in September. First time last year, had a blast.

- Quinte Fall Walleye - late Oct/Nov

Bring on the soft water!!!

Say it ain't so...I was looking forward to your reports. Maybe you can recount your next trip to the grocery store or something. I'm sure even that would be a great read.
