New to Ottawa

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

New to Ottawa

Post by Hot Carl Jr »

And pretty much new to fishing in general. I was transferred to downtown Ottawa last month from southern New York State and figured it would be a good opportunity to learn how to fish. Since my fishing experience is basically limited to bobber fishing for panfish in a small lake/large pond behind my apartment complex in NY, I need some advice on the where, what, when and hows of fishing in the Ottawa area. And I have no real preferences on species, I'm simply looking to catch them not eat them. So, if anyone could point me in the direction of a bait and tackle store and a good place to wet a line (from shore, of course, and preferably with some directions) thats not too far away from the downtown area (within half an hour to an hour), and maybe throw out a few suggestions on bait, lures, etc., it would be much appreciated.

Hey Hot Carl Jr,

Feel free to give me a shout if you looking for any suggestions. As for tackle shops close to downtown, I would suggest Voyager on McArther (South of Montreal Rd, East of Vanier Pkwy) or the Canadian Tire beside the Lynx baseball stadium.

Cheers,
Todd

How about posting a list of ALL tackle shops

Post by plowjock »

I see posted every once in a while go here, go there.Lets get some Balls and NAME ALL the Tackle Shops. Some people are getting ripped off going to the high end dealers all the time, time to let every one in on the business. If this can not be done its time for another Chat line where everybody has a chance to voice their OPEN Opinion. This Board is getting to be the so called u name-its board.

HEY HOT CARL JR.
I will also offer my services to help you find some good places to fish and to help you out on your tackle selection. One suggestion, why dont you look up all of the clubs available on this and other sites, that way you could find out all of their location, also these anglers will be more than happy to help you out in any type of fish species that you are interested in. Here is my e-mail lor-bassing@rogers.com

Plowjock.....I'm very confused by your post.... :? :? :(

Please explain so we can understand what you mean...

Paddletales, Baitcasters, Canadian Tire, Walmart, LeBaron, Sport Action, Voyageur Depot, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's and many more are mentioned on here all the time...

The following rules are found for the forum....

2. Businesses and their owners, staff, pro-staff, or affiliates are asked to refrain from posting messages of an advertising or promotional nature on Fish-Hawk.Net without the expressed written consent of Fish-Hawk.Net.

3. A discussion of angling products, services, and vendors is permitted in Hawk Talk as long as the discussion remains an exchange of information that is not promotional in nature and is between users that have no affiliation with the products, services or vendors being mentioned.
So don't be shy!..tell us where you are getting all those deals!

Thanks for the reply's so far. I did check out a couple of the previous threads and they seemed to have a lot of info. And I'm sure they'll seem even more helpful once I get oriented and figure out where some of these place are, though I was able to find a few of them on a map. And a comprehensive listing of bait and tackle shops sounds like it would be a useful tool for those of us who are new, but I'm not sure how that would apply to the rules on this site. Anyway, thanks again and I may take up a few of the offers to show me around, but it probably wouldn't be for another month or so until I move out of the hotel and into an apartment.
