Shore Pickeral

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Speaking of good fishing spots around Ottawa..... Bowzog and I went out after supper last night to Long Island Locks. Tried a few spots above the locks, above and below the dam, but only got lucky below the locks (fishing, that is  ).

I caught my first walleye big enough to warrant weighing. It weighed in at 3 lbs 9 oz. Immediately caught a smaller one on my next cast, Bowzog then caught two more small ones, then they were all gone. All catch and release. The school must have moved off, having learned their lesson in that spot.

We were also privy to this beautiful sunset.

Slushpuppie, The locks is one of my favourite spots to fish in Ottawa. I usually fish the dam though. More action. I fish the peer just before pickrel closes and damb it is good fishing.

WALKER, Both. I have caught from top and bottom. The bigger ones always come from being uptop thought. If you see a red Ranger come say hi.

Slushpuppy -

Good walleye!! What great pictures. I hope I can tie into a couple of those nice ones next week. It would be nice to have something other than rockbass pictures to post!

I saw your crappie pictures, did I miss the rock bass? (or just a typo?)

Nice crappie by the way.

Markus,

Thx. No rockbass pic's ever posted here, just kind of an inside joke to myself, as they are what you can bank on when Wolfe Lk. is turning a frosty cheek towards you with regard to gamefish. I have to say, there are some really slab-like rockies in there. And great perch, too. But I am just hungering for a big old pike -- and a walleye close to your Muskrat catch would be darned nice, too!!!!

PS: cool looking gar; they did a nice job with it.

If you're asking about the "pick"eral and sunset "pic"tures, no, they're from Long Island locks.

Joco Check your PM.

Also I was fishing at the Long Island.... down near the dam and I was jiggging for eye's and I hit a huge muskie. At least 30 inches. Had to fight her for about a minute before I could see her. HUGE!!! when she saw me she went nuts and broke the line. I have to say, That had to have been the best fight I have ever had. None stop. I can see why some guys on this form only seach for them.....What a fight....no eye's though

To anyone that has fished Long Island recently,
Are there a good amount of sunfish off the docks or by the locks? Was thinkin of a good location to bring a kid to get into some easy action from shore, but also a chance at a potential big fish.
THanks!

I'm a little behind, but here we go!! Wolfe, believe it or not I liked fishing from the time I was a kid. The first thing I caught was a crab fish and when I seen it, I through rod and all into the water. My father wasn't impressed!! I thought I needed to impress someone I guess, so I continued fishing and just the fact that I continued said It all. Remember I'm catching up here so, please bear with me. Saskette and Pink Lady isn't it great that your both from NS. My best friend is from Sydney NS and her family from Antigonish {if spelt right} I'm from Brantford , Ont., around Paris, Cambridge, Grand river area. Wall-I-Guy and Crazyhook thanks for the welcome!!!! Slushpuppy WOW!!!! Do I ever wish that was me in that picture!! Congatulations!!!! What a beautifull fish! What a great sunset! Are you guy's shore fishing?? :D :!: :?:
