"D"Day 60 YEARS AGO TODAY

I would like to take time out from our fishing talk to thank our veterans
60 years ago today some 500,000 men took part in the biggest amphibious landing in history, men from 14 counrtys join together in a common resolve to end Hitlers terror hold on Europe . Many of us had Fathers,Mothers ,Uncles, Aunts and now Grandfathers,Grandmothers who fought for our freedom. There are very few words to describe how proud I am of each and every one of them!!! As I sit here and watch the ceremonys that are taking place in Normandy France , I can't help but think , where we would be if so many Young men and women did not lay down thier lifes in the name of freedom...our freedom! As the years pass us by , i feel that not enough is done for the verterans in recognition of thier great sacrifice , this is one small way that I can say thanks..... They will not grow old , as we grow old.... at the setting of the sun...we will remmber them

My Grandfather was a medic on the beaches.... he didn't share a lot of stories about what it was like... today I understand why.

He did tell me to do one thing every Remembrance Day and other days where we remember those who died for our freedom, "Walk Tall and Free... "

For all who fought for our freedom. Thank you.

I was all of 6 months old on D Day and I can't say "Thank-You" enough to all who made the supreme sacrifice so that I could enjoy the freedom that has been available to me and mine.

To my dad who was a vet of the Army Air Corp, to my father-in law who was on the beach at Normandy, to my uncles who served in Europe, to all the vets of WW2, thank you so very much for your service and sacrafice! You will always be remembered for your heroism and bravery, Gos Bless You All!

I visited those beaches and cemeteries in France in 2002. I can honestly say that I was speechless. It's also amazing how some of the French people we met loved us just because we were Canadian.

Thanks Grandpa, you and all the lads of the 48th Highlander regiment have my utmost respect and appreciation. A big acknowledgement goes out for all those who weren't lucky enough to come home.

If I get a chance, I'll post some fishing pics my Grandpa gave me from an Army camp near Whitehorse. Man, it must have been like shooting ducks in a barrel.
