Obviously a few diff outlooks but...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Obviously a few diff outlooks but...

Post by FLOATFISHIN »

May I 1st off say,WHOAAAA Markus I never called you a poacher!!!!I never even saw your pic and man what a beaut!!!!I in no way by my post said that you or anyone else was a poacher, just from previous exp's,I seem to find that a shot will get you more grief than anythin!!!!So I will close this part with:Markus I envy you for your posts, pics, and all info that I have read from you,and do not feel any dissrespect or hatred towardss you for your pic!!!!!Plz I hope you do not think my post was directed towards you or anyone.I was just looking for how people felt about taking a quick shot.

Second I will have to look back on the name but"ON THE HUNT"Man you need to realize that I am 110% sure that the posters on here aint "ON THE HUNT!!!!!!!!!!"What my post is about is how we feel as a grou[p good or bad about the pics OF A PERSONAL RECORD?????

And 3rd and maybe most important (EXCUSE ME IM TRYING TO DO THIS WITH THE HOCKEY GAME ON SO I DONT REMEMBER NAMES)Is HANDELING OOS?????????????Yes your precautions must be taken esp on out of season fish but mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!Would you treat a in season fish different if you knew it was being returned to the water for another day??????????Come on I try not to even hold a walleye at 15"buy the gills in May or Oct!!!!!!Let alone a bass out of season!!!!

And also yes the great stren promoter himself and others make a name by fishing spawning bass!!!

Also I dont know if anyone can find out before me but,,,I posted And I remember like it was yesterday:A article by in my eyes 1 of the greatest pulications on freshwater fishing (IN-FISHERMAN)A possible next world record muskie was handeled, measured, though not weighed for no scale in the boat,OUT OF SEASON!!!!Also a recent article I will look for but within the year 2004,was opened by"We pulled this 4lbs smallie of his bed and watched him fight franticly to get back to his soul purpose to the guard position, and when we put him or her in the livewell,we watched the bluegills demolish all of the unguarded fry on his bed!!!!"

I am sure I will be blasted for this too,but in my eyes it is all education!!!!

Like I said FF, I found nothing insulting and you in no way insulted me.

Your words:

I would interpret this a generalization that anyone who posts a picture of an OOS fish as saying "look at me I'm a poacher".

Great thread FF. I'm enjoying reading the diversity of opinions.

Oh and thanks for your kind words!

We're still working on the "I wanna be like Markus" t-shirts that we discussed up at Muskrat a few days ago...

THis has been a great thread and certainly one that people get emotional about. I think it is so interesting how the culture among anglers who fish recreationally in Ontario is so supportive of taking a responsible approach, whether you agree with taking a picture of an Out of Season fish or not. I think it is the attitude of responsibility and caring for the stocks that will ensure we have a healthy fishery more so than whether or not taking a picture is legal or not.

I think the whole picture thing comes down to definition of possession. Are you considered in possession of a fish if you are taking a picture and intend to release?

Does it irk me to see photos of out-of-season fish that were released....no.
Do I think it's wrong to take photos of OOS fish that are released...no

However:

The legal answer to that question "Are you in possession of it if you take a picture" is YES. The regs say "released immediately", not "...immediately after a picure" or "...within 60 sec."

Now as to whether or not the CO's would enforce it to that extent is another matter, but they certainly could should they choose to.

"Honestly Officer, I'm just keeping it alive in the livewell while my wife grabs some film for the camera..." Obviously that's an exaggeration and clearly wouldn't work, but where do you draw the line. It would be up to the discretion of the officer on the scene. And from somone's post about a $250 fine for not changing the address on your Outdoors Card, that's not a risk I want to take.
