Bryson Lake......Adventure?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Bryson Lake......Adventure?

Post by Canadian Bacon »

It was a long, long, long......I could go on...trip!
As for pictures....RUK may have a few and hopefully we will have them posted in the near future.

Day 1. Thursday June 3....3:15 am. Shower and shave time
MT picked me up at 4am...we then headed to RUK's house and picked him up at 4:30....on to Antrim. We met the other guys there...one is my business partner and new here under the name "Rooky". We took off from there and met up with one last guy in Fort Cologne. We ate at his uncles Restaurant...forward...HOOOOOO...on to Bryson lake.
We arrived early b4 10am. Started to drop the boats in the water..unload all the goodies and sleeping bags etc...to head to our island.
It's about 8km to get there so it took some time as some of the boats were smaller horse power..what made it difficult was the wind and the waves..blew us around like crazy. It was so bad it even blew the dock ( a very large dock with about 20 slips and boats) free and it started to float down the lake.....Me standin on it....
After we get all unpacked..MT and I head out to try for some Pike....NOTHING....BUT THE ADVENTURE HAD JUST BEGUN. We got back to our island and as most of you know..I have no depth perception so I either need help getting out and in to a boat or at least something to touch to give me a feel for where it is...I went to get out of MT's boat from the bow and the wind and waves pushed the stern so now I was doing the oh so funny stradle we love to laugh at people for doing...It happened so fast I had no chance....Well for a big lad I am very unusually flexible and was able to hold on for what seemed like hours but may have only been seconds. MT tried to get the boat back but with no luck..then he grabbed me to try and help pull me in....great effort.......ugh....I said Bill just let go...so he did and in I went....Now excuse me for what I am about to say...the reason people have heart attacks when falling into freezing cold water is because thier testicles smash them in the heart on the way to thier throat! I was back to normal in a day or so...
I swam under the dock and out the other side..climbed up on shore and headed for the warmth of our cottage.....It really did take me a while to come back to normal..I did not fish the rest of that day..spent alot of time stoaking the two fires..one inside (to dry my cloths) and one outside...
We all got up the next day and trolled and trolled and trolled......nothing....nothing...nothing....not a bite not even a weed hit for excitment...ugh. That evening my brother in law and I headed to a small lake called division lake..it's about a 4 k drive and 10 min walk to get in....Now the name of this little lake should really be "Bug infested" Lake...
I got eaten very badly and my left foot is still swollen. I am not kidding it was about the size of a 5lb large mouth..I couldn't fit it into any of my shoes..not even my flip flops....I did catch 5 keepers though Speckled trout on a Super Duper. The rest of the weekend I spent trying to catch Lakers.....In total we caught 6.......2 keepers. I caught none..
My partner and another guy..Lee..caught 2 nice Pike 30'' and 32"..We ate them for a late night snack.....
Well other than a 8k boat ride in total darkness that pretty much scared the ...you know what outa me....(if your out at night and it's not your boat..ask..do you have a light?) after watching the hockey game at the lodge....not much to report...
MT gets to keep his name and my catch frase stands....NO LUCK!!!

Hey Bacon:

Sorry to hear about your results at Bryson but I gotta say, you tell your tale with great humour. Fishing reports can be great stories particularly when someone isn't afraid to laugh at himself. Your description of your unscheduled swim was priceless!! Better luck with the fishing on next outing.
