Novia Scotia Shark fishing
I have never actually fished for sharks down there but during my 20 years at sea in an old steam destroyer I got to play life guard during what we called swimex. The skipper would stop the ship and let all those who wanted to jump in for a swim.
As the life guard we stood on the flight deck with FN rifles (308 auto) and watched for shark fins in the water. Most guys who went swimming requested that if we saw sharks coming we would shoot them rather than try to hit a swimming shark. They figured it would be quicker for them that way. Luckily never had to shoot either one.
If you get the chance try out Maxwell Plums Pub, over 100 brands on tap and good bar food. Located just below Citadel Hill.

Sadly, they're down to 60 now.Dan Smyth wrote: If you get the chance try out Maxwell Plums Pub, over 100 brands on tap and good bar food. Located just below Citadel Hill.

That's just unacceptable!

There are few problems in life which can not be solved with a well-placed, high-explosive projectile.
Re: Shark Charters
Not a rod but a reel,in a 14 foot boat.He has a few more videos, catching blues a couple miles off.Theres a few shark scrambles in the province, sometimes there looking for other people.Out4trout wrote:What number fly rod do you use for sharks??? Somehow my #9 likely wouldn't cut it...Shepherd wrote: snip... He even does flyfishing for the sharks. ...end snip![]()

I had the oportunity to go out with the sharks unlimited guys a few years ago while I was touring NB and unfortunitely I could not find a partner or two. Yes it takes 3 to land them sharks, a big one over 500 lbs can take half a day to reel in. I was told you have to tag team them and switch every 15 minutes and even with 2 big guys it could be tough.
I don't think you can compare shark fishing to any freshwater even giant sturgeon, they get as big but are much more verochous (sp).

Unfortunately you could be sixth up for a rod on a 5 fish day. Look at the BlueCharter photo gallery... seems to me there are alot of days where it's 3 to 5 fish caught. If it's something you really wanna do though JP, then go for it regardless... Get busy fishing or get busy dying right..??JP wrote:But you can split $1500 over 6 people its good value and it's Shark fishing LOL

Plenty sturgeon are salt and fresh water Rich. Even the giants. And ferocious doesn't really have anything to do with power... sturgeon of equal size to a more ferocious muskie or large pike could be considered more powerful, sometimes even as exciting on the end of the line.
Like I said, I'd like to make a true comparison to some of the bigger species I've had a chance at already. Sharks are amazing, a mako would make for a kickarse experience. Of what I have witnessed on TV and by looking a few times on the web, it's been mostly sort of beefy spinning gear used for most sharks caught with these eastern charters, fish that would go 50-100 pounds on average. A 500 lb fish of any kind is gonna take awhile, especially the better part of a day on lighter gear.
If you get a mako on the end of your line you will be peeing your pants thinking...---- i wish I had gone marlin fishing instead..Moosebunk wrote:... they don't look like that good a fight for their size... not sturgeon or marlin tough anyways.
Mako's have the highest testosterone levels of any animal on earth, those things are ---- nasty bastards.
I have my trip booked!!!!
I am heading out on the water with Blue Shark Charters www.bluesharkcharters.com on Monday July 6 out of East Passage Nova Scotia. A trip for 2. Can't wait!!!!
Art is awsome. Not only did he squeeze me in a very busy schedule but he has helped us find a Bed and Breakfast for a couple of days.
A HUGE thanks to Big Jim for putting in a good word for me with Art and getting me a spot on his boat.
The cool thing is that as we fish we do research and tagging on all sharks caught as well as a good chance to see Whales and seals on the way out.
I will be sure to take lots of pics and video of the two of us on the trip to report back.
Can't wait. I feel like a kid on Christmas eve LOL
