Calabogie report
Case in point, Shiner only had 800 fingerlings stocked in 2008. Given its easy access one has to wonder how many of those 800 actually managed to survive the winter as it is common knowledge that it gets pounded by both the soft and hard water fishermen.Pembroke MNR wrote:Our stocking program has been revamped to ensure that we are stocking in the most effective and efficient manner possible in order to maximize benefits to the angler. Simply put, we do not believe stocking more fish equates to increased fishing success. In fact, the opposite is true in most cases we have realized that by exceeding the carrying capacity of lakes with stocked fi sh can reduce both size and quantity of fi sh available to the angler. This is simply a space and food availability issue. Competition for food will stunt and increase the mortality rates of densely stocked waterbodies. Our most recent stocking guidelines provide ideal stocking frequencies and densities for each lake to improve both size and quantity of fish to the angler. You will see this reflected in the 2008 fish quantities.
There is definitely movement to develop/create some trophy (C&R only)lakes in the region that will allow the the development of large trout. While bait fishermen and ice fishermen may tend to disagree with the restrictions imposed on "trophy lakes", their resounding sucess in BC and Manitoba are evidance of what is possible.

Re: Calabogie trout - - - - "No bites"?????
Hey Steve, great shots of the lake and waterfall. Thanks for the pics but one question, where are the fish?TroutnMuskieHunter wrote:Ya...you may want to try some Quebec Lakes....Ohridska Pastrmka wrote:No bites for three weekends in a row![]()
Other people that I have talked to last weekend had no bites at all as well.
Either you fish from a boat or you fish from shore results are the same...
It looks like that most of us will have a very quiet fishing season!!!
This is not the case when fishing in Quebec based on some of reports that we got recently.
Not really sure what this may be caused by;
1. Poorly stocked lakes in Calabogie and surrounding area
2. Havelly fished during the winter months or
3. Weather factor
Anyone else has the same experience? Any clues folks?
mmaangler and I just got back from a little journey on the QC side and had a blast!!
Beautiful country and fish![]()

I understand that everyone like to keep their spots as secret, but this post is by someone that likes to go fishing and being honest and willing to share his experience . I 'm not sure what is a purpose about teasing him instead of helping.
Anyhow I'm going to help .
Calabogie lakes can be tough when it comes to fishing. Not sure where did you go but I can certainly help and give you some locations to start within.
As per QC lakes there is bunch of lakes that you can hit within 2 hours drive. I'll send you a email on dozen or so lakes that you can go to with the maps on how to get there.
You going to meet bunch of folks FH folks there
Just pm to me you email address

Thank You "Paya"!
I am definetly leaving this Forum, there is no point of helping other people and not being helped when needed.
I hope you'll all have a good time out there and catch a lot of fish.
Keep in mind that being a human and help other people is much more valuable than being selfish and mean individual.
Cheers to good people![/b]
