Plano vs. Flambeau

It would seem that my Flambeau soft tackle box, after only a few years, is in need of replacing. As I have a number of the plastic boxes/trays from this system, I am looking for something compatible.

I wasn't really impressed with the quality of the Flambeau soft tackle system I am replacing. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion of the Plano soft tackle systems? Is there a quality difference between Flambeau and Plano?

I find that Plano consistently beat Flambeau in quality, especially after some heavy use of the box. But that's just me.

I prefer Plano but I also prefer specific Plano boxes, the ones with the combination of straight and angled dividers that you can move anywhere.

I don't like the new Plano boxes with 4 closures, too fussy. Shimano makes some nice small boxes for terminal tackle and such.

I guess it really depends on how you use it. Biggest thing to me is that the dividers have to stay put once they are inserted.

As a general rule I'm going Plano.

I agree, I like the Plano 3771. I'ts only 1 3/8in high, has infinate divider options and takes up less space. I use the Plano 3771 for my hardbaits & jigs. I have a few smaller 3600 boxes, one rats & one for various weights.

I use the large binder for plastics and I have a medium binder that is a killer spinnerbait wallet.

Plano all the way... been a Plano lover since i was 14... going on 10years now... they've never let me down yet!!!

PLANO

The latches on the new boxes are easy to open. I always had to fight with the flambeau boxes and they would end up breaking.

Those Binders are awsome! I agree 100% on that. My wife has some and the convenience is awsome. 1 drawback I see with them though is having to buy a bag just to put your binders in!

My buddy just picked this one up, the AZ6 model. I'm quite impressed with the heavy-duty zippers and stitching and it holds a tonne.

I'd consider replacing my 4box system for this 6box system. was about $60 at Lebarons

I've got one of the Bass Pro Extreme 370 bags. Good quality bag for the price....and hold lots of gear.

I use 3 or 4 small attache bags with different types of gear in each. They hold various sizes of boxes and individual items such as pliers, jaw spreaders etc and cost a fraction of what the fancy ones do.

I'm not a user of soft tackle boxes, but have had the same plano 747 tackle box for 25 years. It's tough enough that I've used it as a seat. Believe me thats good 'cause I'm one fat bstard! Handle broke off a year ago and I rigged a new one from heavy wire and it's good as new. Might last another 25 yrs. Reminds me of the Mitchell reels I've owned for over 35 yrs.

Bass Pro make some of the best bags out there in my opinion. Plano boxes are not included with most and have to be bought seperate though.

Mine came with 4 plano-like 3700 boxes and was 25% off at the Calgary store grand opening.
