Well I finally got out for a real fishing trip here in SK. We went up to the Churchill River, for some canoeing and fishing. Before leaving I told my brother that I would be using my fly rod for walleye. "You'll never catch anything up there with a fly rod". The fishing was good for both of us, and fortunately for me, I kept up with my brother who was using worms and tackle, even though I have never really fished for walleye before.
The walleye were hot on medium to large sized olive wooly buggers fished with a sinking tip line. The 6 wt rod was sufficient for the 15 to 24" walleye, however, a 38" pike took the woolly bugger at one point and I had a 30 minute fight to land it. An 8 wt may have been better for that.
If you get a chance to fish in this province, I highly reccomend it.
Sorry no pics. I'll get some next time.
