Morris Island would be a great spot as long as you don't mind the 20 minute walk to the end of the path and the death defying ramble through the woods...lol. But that's the fun of fishing from the shore.
My youngest (14 years old) and I are planning to go out this Sunday around mid morning and planning to stay for most of the day (taking a lunch and everything) as long as I can drag him out of bed.
If anyone wants to join us...feel free to come on out.

New to Ottawa last summer and have a young fella that wants to get out and go fishing. Did lots of trout and smallmouth fishing in Halifax but didnt get the hook in the water here yet. Would love to get a good idea of where to go and when to hit it, catch and release only. Think the dynamic of a fishing group would be wonderful also.
good website
Hi Colby and Wayne,
Here's a good website with places you can fish on the rideau river:
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Le ... 65650.html
I'm relatively new to the Ottawa area, and haven't yet had a chance to try many spots, but I have had some success under the Lees Ave. OC Transpo Bridge (south side). Caught a few small pike there on a Mepps #4 spinner. Also, from there, if you try further east along the river (around 50-100 yards) you can get some smallmouth bass (1-2 lb) (also caught them on mepps spinners as well as surface lures).
Good luck!
