fishing shoreline

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

fishing shoreline

Post by bassman3840 »

back again I was amazed to see the number of boats fishing the shore line for pike and walleye(ha ha) on white lake today. It wasn't only our american friends but Ont boats also & its not going to get any better this week .the cottages are full at the lodge & there is a tourn on opening day. I sure hope the M.N.R. show up this week theres lots of money in fines if they show up. This BS has to stop I have phoned the ministry once already but i don't know if they sent anyone.here is the number to call to report someone breaking the law.1-877-847-7667.

While I don't doubt what you are getting at......

I've fished lots of shorelines for pike. And lots of them where there aren't any bass......

It's a touchy subject I know. But not everyone fishing shorelines is bass fishing.

Yes, a touchy subject indeed.

Yes this time of year does make anglers eager to fish shorelines and it makes the true conservationists anxious too. Bradford is right too, not everyone fishing tight to shore is "targeting" bass. And that is the main point as far as the law goes. If you are seen to be TARGETING a specific out of season species, be it bass or another then the MNR has good reason to issue a fine. Even yesterday (Sat. 20th) we ran through 2-4 FOW throwing bright shiny yellow and white spinnerbaits on the Rideau River (Kilmarnock) and absolutely cleaned up on Pike ! Dad & I got atleast 30 through the course of the morning and early afternoon. So no we weren't poaching but were successfully fishing for our targeted species.......PIKE ! Lucky us !

I recall a yelling match with a cottager from shore who accused our party of boats of poaching as we fished along the shoreline. Fishing with the then PRESIDENT of the White Lake Cottage Association did lend obvious credibility and the gentleman let us pass with no further ado.

Myself I live just on the Rideau River near Merrickville, and a certain campground that caters to some American visitors this time of year seems not to mind the "poachers" who travel some distance, rent a cabin for a week ( $$$) and fish our little out of the way stretch of the river for all the bass they can hook. I watch the bass boats pull in from my living room window and see the out of state plates.

Sadly enough the RVCA (Rideau Valley Conservation Authority) doesn't even have a sign stating that bass are out of season and that fines could put you in the poor house. Maybe some nearby concerned home owner will put a home made sign there ?

Who knows ?

i rented a boat yesterday on white lake. we were fishing (drifting) through weeds twenty feet/thirty feet from shore (well within casting distance) we caught numerous pike, and some bass. that's the problem when fishing for pike. bass also take a white spinnerbait (single blade colorado style). and being soo close to opener, most of them have spawned.

if we caught a bass, we moved off.

had a great day on white lake!

shore fishing snob

Nothing wrong with shore fishing. I have done it quite a bit, I can tell you i have caught more pike from shore than bass hands down.

So I guess no one should shore fish until the last Saturday in June.

I think you should take your cause up with the Ministry then the whole fishing industy as a whole and see what they say about shore fishing

While I have to side with the musician on catching more pike from shore than bass I have to admit I'm torn right down the middle on the issue.

Therefore I came up with a 'self-imposed' rule....I fish on the opening of pike/pickerel season to scratch that itch...all weekend if need be. Then, sadly...that's it 'till bass opener. Until then I'm pretty much dedicated to that seasons household 'projects'...getting done what I can until the bass season arrives.

'Cause when it does....I'm in the tube...leave a message...BEEP!
