Fish Identification ?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fish Identification ?

Post by raven1978 »

Hey guys first off i love this forum it roxXx. I was fishing out on Loborough Lake last weekend and have caught something i dont know what the hell it is LoL....i am familiar with large & small mouth bass and this is neither of them. So i figured maybe someone here could help me. I did a post in a different thread and the only response i got was a SMB. Im still hard pressed to believe it is as it does not have the markings of a SMB. So anyone have any ideas as to what it is ?

I will say a pale smallie. I have seen them that colour as well as almost jet black!

Smallmouth. If they weren't brown-red where I caught them, they were that exact colour in your picture.

SM for sure. Their patterns vary depending on the environment they're in.

SM for certain.

Good thing you have that glove on. At that size their Velcro mouths get quite uncomfortable and may scuff your thumb.

Just bugging you!

SMB.........smallies have the ability to match their cover. I've seen them almost as black as coal on the St. Lawrence.

Those sharp-toothed SMB are quite fun to catch, but beware they will take your fingers right off. I see that you were well equipped for that!!

I see that you have a tattoo on your shoulder, it's okay to be poked by a needle over a million times but beware of the sandpaper mouth!!!

Thanks for all the replies guys it is appreciated as i have never seen a SMB in this color before....and as for the glove, well i know it looks kinda stoopid but i cut about a 1/4" off my thumb doing some construction work 2 weeks ago so to save from infection....i used the glove. But again thank you for the help on this fish. I really wasn't too sure as to what it was, kinda cool to see how one species differs in colors.
