Round Lake - Kirkland Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Round Lake - Kirkland Lake

Post by Learnin'toFish »

Hey there,

I am heading up to Kirkland Lake in two weeks to a cottage on Round Lake. Has anyone ever fished this lake before? What type of species? Any hot spots?
Let me know.....

Hey Learnin' ,

I was hoping someone was going to be able to give you more specifics than I can - but it doesnt look promising. I have fished round lake once - yep once. And to make it worse, I managed to catch nothing. Great help eh ? :)

Anyways, it is part of the Blanche river system, and has pickerel (walleye), pike, perch, and some smallmouth bass. It has a number of cottages on it, and I think it does get a fair bit of pressure in the summer. The water is stained and was pretty cloudy the day I was there. I think you will have the best luck with a jig n minnow or worm harness. I dont know how good the bass fishing is there, but the pickerel fishing is supposed to be quite good. Cant give you any specific hotspots, but I am pretty sure that where "Crooked creek" flows into the lake would be a spot to try in the evening for pickerel. Although you will have to check the regulations as part of this river entering the lake is a no fishing santuary - at least in the spring.

Hope this helps.

Fox.
