Lake Simcoe wind....waves???
hey i'm heading off to fish Simcoe on sunday, and they are calling for 25 km/h winds from the North.....
i know it's a big lake, so i'm figuring about 3 foot waves....
since the winds coming from the the north, we were thinking of fishing Kempenfelt Bay.....
how do you think the wind will be in that bay??
i don't want to go out with 14.5 foot boat in three foot waves....
any help would be great! thanks!!

I've never fished Kempenfelt bay, but I have fished Cooks Bay on the south end of the lake. Lake Simcoe can be a real b%$&^ in the wind, and get dangerous in a hurry.
Maybe someone on here has experience, but if not I would call the Marinas in Kempenfelt bay. Let them know the conditions expected and the rig you're running. Also, just because you can putt-putt around in the boat, doesn't mean you can fish comfortably.
If the local guys advise its better to stay off, just head to a smaller lake in the area. I run a 16 footer, and if the wind on one lake looks to be a pain in the butt, I just go elsewhere.

KatchMoore BPS is dangerous on the wallet for sure!!!! I went just once so far but I had to stop in between the end of my meeting and my flight out. So I was in there for exactly 15 minutes and I managed to spend a bit more than $500.00, so I can just imagine how much I will spend when I drop my wife and daughter at Wonderland in August and then go to BPS until it is time to go pick them up or until I run out of money which ever comes first!!!! Can't wait.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

I live about a km from lake simcoe, and boy oh boy it can get nasty fast. If your renting a boat lake simcoe marine in lefroy has nice deep and wide 16ft boats with padded seats and live wells. You can head directly south of there and get into some good bass/pike/perch. If your gonna fish the main lake in a little boat i'd get out there as early as possible by 9-10 it's gonna be a bit ugly with a 30km wind. forget goin out after lakers n whitey's with that kind of wind in a tinny . throw tubes in 6-12 feet of water and you should get into bass and perch, look for weed beds and rockpiles.

great that's perfect, exactly what kind of info i'm looking for!!!
thanks!!!
Hey Andrew i'll give ya a shout on monday or tuesday. i'll drop off those reels.
I live in Toronto and I fish the surrounding lakes all the time. I rarely ever go out on Simcoe because it is a rough lake. If I see so much as a slight wind bending tree tips in the city, I will usually pass on Simcoe. I use to have a 14.5 foot Prince Craft and I rarely if ever would waste my time going to Simcoe with it. If you get there and the wind is bad, there is no point in putting the boat in the water. Even Cooks Bay, which is one of the most wind protected areas to fish on Simcoe, gets hella rough!
I now have a much larger, big water boat and I still avoid Simcoe. Weather can come up on you quick there. The lakes fetch just lends itself to rough water when in goes off. Even though my 16.5 can handle the rough stuff, I dont venture out on Simcoe often because even in the bigger boat, it just isnt fun getting bounced around all day while you try to fish. Not to mention the difficulty you will have stayin on one spot. You end up fighting a trolling motor the entire day when the wind is on. If I were you, I would head to Dalrymple, Balsam, or Scugog. All of which are in the general area of Simcoe, and tend to be much calmer waters.

I was out on simcoe one saturday this year and rented a boat from a dealer on cooks bay. He said "you sure? no refunds" but i was so desperate to go out on the water I went anyway. We lasted about 30 minutes crashing up and down ont he waves, throwing us all over the boat before we decided to just fish Keswick marina and I got a few perch.
Would be very careful before going out on simcoe again...
