cover on outboard engine

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

cover on outboard engine

Post by (Big Bass Daddy) »

just a quick question; I have 1993 Mercury 135 HP outboard engine and the other day while trailering my boat I noticed that one of the latches that is used to secure the cover on the motor was open, thus meaning it wasn't securing the cover. I tried to make sure the cover was on right and it was but it just didn't seem to lock the cover. The other one on the other side works perfectly, so my question is; is this a simple adjustment. It doesn't appear to be broken or anything.

Thank you.

Mine did the same thing. All I had to do was tighten the screw.
Mine is a mariner 5HP though.

Had a couple earlier model Mercs in my lifetime. If it is the standard hold down I'm thinking of with a set screw, the info provided in the previous post is correct. Just tighten the screw in quarter turn increments and test. Once it begins to hold, give it another 1/4 to 1/2 turn and you should have no more problems. I've found that these tend to work themselves loose with vibration and need adjusting once in a while. Good luck! Crankbait
