More sewage floating in the Ottawa river

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

More sewage floating in the Ottawa river

Post by lifeisfun »

They managed once again to keep sewage floating in to the river ...
They just reported warning on 6pm CTV news.
Will this ever end ?

Residents warned to stay clear of Ottawa River

The City of Ottawa's medical officer of health is advising residents in the east end to stay away from the Ottawa River after a massive sewage spill at the Keefer Regulator in New Edinburgh.

Residents are being advised not to boat in the area or go near the water for the course of the weekend. A no-swimming advisory has also been issued for areas downstream from the spill.

"I've asked that those beaches immediately have a no-swim advisory. I think it would be imprudent for people to be in the water until we know what's going on," said Dr. Isra Levy on Friday.

City officials said a steel plate got stuck in a pipe at the regulator, causing a slow spill to begin at about midnight.

At midday on Friday, city officials redirected the sewage into the Ottawa River so they could determine what caused the spill.

By 1 p.m., it's estimated that about 6,500 cubic metres of sewage leaked into the river.

The city said the spill was under control by about 4 p.m. However, it is currently unclear how much sewage entered the water.

This city government is completely out of control and looks like they are not going to be able to stop this, they just seem completely dis-functional. People are going to have to start raising hell somehow....I just dont know how.
People have posted in the past that it has been going on for decades, well I`m not so sure, I think they have allowed overloading of the century old system by allowing too much development and not upgrading sewer systems or adding new ones properly to cope with it.
This sucks
This is total BS

Another 6.5 million liters into the river.
I fished Petrie island with my boat last year, and had a huge slick that I had to remove with spray-nine. I'd hate to see the slick floating around out there now.
And to think, this spill wasn't even related to rainfall.....
Last I heard, we've dumped 700 million liters into the river this year. Pathetic.
