Ottawa R -Rockland Report

Post by Hookup »

Well, it was not a good night for me... Only 3 fish boated for me, 2 fish boated for my buddy...

We launched at Rockland around 6pm. There was a pretty bad looking accident at the TimHortons intersection that held us up for a bit, unfortunately it looked like people were hurt...

Anyhow, we were wett'ing lines by 6:20, and had an inkling to try the "ontario side" right east of the launch in the first large bay. It was less than productive... yeilding 1 small bass out of the weeds, a few boils (not on our lures, else where) and that's about it...

Outside, on the main channel, my buddy got these two..

Nothing huge, but hit like little rockets coming completely air-borne on the take... entertaining if nothing else. The second photo is actually a small Musky... hit a surface frog right at the boat... There was a much larger hit, completely air borne pike or musky that must have been 8+ lbs... easily could have eaten the two above... but it was not meant to be... after coming completely air borne and showing off, it was gone... never to be heard from again.

A full 1hr of fishing with nothing... then as 8:10 falls and it's getting dark...

The first one was 1.3 kg (just shy of 3lbs)
The second was 1.9kg (4.25 lbs!)

Made for a nice night, even though I only managed the 3 fish...

Zoom out from there, I centered on the small bay, which is directly across from the launch...

Sounds like a nice evening of fishing Hookup - the O River can indeed produce some good action in that area.

I fished the same two spots earlier that day!!! pretty similar results, ended up getting 2 largies and a pike in about 2 hours of fishing. My buddy missed one and we had a few fish miss the lure. all and all a good way to kill an afternoon.

Tight lines,

I might have caught one of your fish... The little guy had a hole in his mouth/jaw from being caught before... When I lipped him my thumb went right through the hole... kind of freaked me out...

I'd rather start the outing off slow and end with a bang, anyway. Two nice bass there, and at least you guys weren't skunked. :D
