That is a beauty...congrats on the PB
JR
PB 48
I use heavy gear so the fight isn't that long but this one really gave off some heavy head shakes on the surface, the type of head shakes that make you think the lure is going to go flying out of her mouth. The fight lasted no more than 30 seconds with the lure popping out in the net. I only CAST, I don't think that you experience the full of musky fishing when you troll, nothing like a boat side strikefordson wrote:That is awsome. An Ordained lure! The fact that you were casting is great for guys like me who prefer that. I hope to be out this weekend and if I got a 48 I'd be one happy fisherman.
How'd she fight? The ones I catch in this temp roll a lot...

I thought the same thing until I went with Peppino, Geo, and Crusty last year. It is cool to be holding your rod and have one grab it or that ZZZZZZZZZZZZZz noise when one hits and you have to grab the rod. Because the boat gets stopped after the hookup it becomes a lot of fun.
The big problem for me is trolling gets boring. I've done it twice this year an no luck yet.
Fishing with my buddy recently we've gone back to casting which I agree is exciting as heck when you see one slam your bait. I use legend 8' with 80 stealth braid, and 175 lb steel leaders. So I know the fight isn't that long.
I lost a 45" class tiger musky this summer when I put down the musky rods and cast a buzzbait on 12 lb mono. I fought her for almost 4 minutes but when she got near the boat and decided to go airborne with those super fast headshakes she just hurt my feelings, spit the lure and swam away. The worst thing was the lamprey I saw on her that I never got to remove. I lost another one on a zara spook a couple weeks later when I was using the same type of equipment. This one swallowed the whole bait and 9 inches of 30 lb leader. I was very upset again.
So the right equipment for the job.
Let me ask you if I met you on the rideau last fall. It was october. I have an 17' sea nymph and I was with my son. You had caught one and told us you'd just seen a 50. You were by yourself. ( and pretty excited)
Best of luck this weekend

nope i don't recall that, it probably wasn't me, I don't go musky fishing by myself. I use a 7-6 st.croix xh, 100 lb power pro, 300 lb steel jerkbait leader. I have never had a fight last more than a minute
. Your probably wondering why such a heavy leader, well the action it gives a jerkbait is awesome, ive tried others but I like the 300lb, and I've had the same leader on all year (probably a dozen good size fish and some small ones too).

The ones I use are solid strand. I suspect you use that too. Where do you get 300lb leaders? The 175's I use last the whole season also. I love the way my Giant Jackpots work with these. But I use them for all. I have two Legend 8' St. Croix. MH action. The seem to work for everything I throw. Expensive but light and very good casting rods.
I'll be out this weekend w/ lifeisfun saturday evening and all day Sunday hopefully.
Hope to have a pic for you and we can talk more about it. hopefully.
