FLOATATION SUITS and ICE FISHING [ Poll ]

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

How do you feel about the use of floatation suits specifically for ice fishing?

Safety first! I always wear it.

Floatation suit

Post by Super »

Hi,
One of my friends was down on the Bay of Quinte last week. They recognised an acquaintance's boat out on the bay and motored over to talk to him. There were two guys in the boat and they were done fishing for the day.
One of them had just fallen overboard and got back into the boat.
Fortunately he had his floatation suit on, so was able to stay afloat and get back in the boat, but he was cold. If he had just been wearing big boots and winter clothing, the outcome might have been very different.
If the water is too cold to swim, you wear a floatation suit.
If the water is OK to swim, wear a life jacket.
One other tip is to have a ladder in your boat especially this time of year Also for those who do not know, if your partner shuts off the engine, you can use the base of the motor as a step to climb into the back of the boat . This is a lot easier than trying to get in over the side of the boat.
Practise this in the summer.

Floater suits on the ice

Post by Joey Rat »

Always spring and fall fishing. Worse case senario theyat least find the body. I don't do a lot of ice fishing but can't imagine going on the ice without it and besides it's the closest thing to a snowsuit I own.

one thing guys.

survival suit guive you mins in water not hours.

its great wen you can get back in the boat or back on ice fast.

but dont think to be in water like 30min or watever..in cold water condition..it wont work.

they will find the body thats the only that will be save.

a dry suit is bit better IF you have the caps and foot thing to if not..again you will loose all the temp frome both end and wont stay long in cold water.

so they call it survival..BUT for mins..no moe then that. even if you have neopren and all ends. few min more that is it.

but there hot and can save you in going true ice...so for the price its worth it.
