davies hole

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Dirtus,

now that's the kind of report I might post during ice fishing season. Actually, you probably iced one more than I would have. But you were out there and even got your girlfriend to accompany you, so things weren't all that bad.

Daughter and I went to Davies this afternoon. Lots of people on the ice. Turned around and parked on the side of the road. Truck slid off the shoulder and I manage to get it quite stuck. A nice lady came along and pulled the dumb redneckout of the ditch(me).
Anyhow we got 2 walleye and 2 very large rock bass and a good sized perch, lost 2 other eyes and was stipped off a few times, daughter had a ball. Gold and black rattlin rapala was the lure of choice this afternoon, the smaller one. And of course you aren't fishin on Davies without a 1/8 oz gold kastmaster in the lake tipped with 2 minnows. Only thing I wont tell is where I was on the lake..

No almost a foot, no slush on the ice. In better shape than I thought it was going to be in.
Talking to my cousin he said they let some water out of Second Depot so they may open up the dam on third this would affect the ice on Davies.

Was out on third a long time ago, walked across the lake some, drilled a hole with the jiffy, 3' of air under the ice. Nearly crappped my drawers while getting off as fast as I could...

Was out on the hole again this afternoon. 3 Walleye, 4 large rock bass, 1 Large Sun fish and 2 bull heads. Strange afternoon fishing. Lost one of my better lures at the hole to a larger eye. Pics to follow if I can get my new ISP to sort out my personal webspace.

mmmm those catfish would certainly be extremely tasty this time of year!!! I would trade in all those panfish and walleye for even just one Catfish to have a tasty snack!!

Well finally managed to hook up with my good buddy Doug. Out to Davies for the evening fish. 2 Walleye, a gator, perch and a bull head.

Andy you need a new camera, that one makes the fish look small!

They were actually all pretty decent fish, although the pike was not really huge, maybe 3.5 to 4 pounds. She will go into the smoker once I have a bunch to brine.

Wish I had known that earlier.............

I do eat catfish (mud pouts) in the spring but have never tried one in the winter. I did clean a couple ling two years ago from Davies, and later smoked them, but they just STUNK. I do not know why. I would not keep a ling from there again, that's for sure. And I guess I feel the same way about catfish out of there.

BUT!!! I would gladly put any future catfish away for you, frozen whole...........
