and for all you know he's in the process of packing his gear up to head out to his shack...

Sorry man, that just doesn't hold water for me... In goose hunting, if you get to the field late, often times you got to move on because someone else is setup... its a simple common-sense/courtesy that if you're slow out of bed, or late home from work or whatever, it's the 'late guys problem' and by no means do you take it out on the people who got there first. I've been the late guy several times (frigg'n slow people I hunt with...grrrr) and if we are early enough we've gone out and spoken to the other group asking about sharing the field... in other situation, it's too late and we'd wreck their hunt by heading into the field so we just quietly move on... It's happened in reverse when we are the early group as well.
I cannot see how this would be any different, other than the shot-guns.
I'm not saying he's right...all I'm saying is for all we know he's waited all week to go out to his shack and he looks out to see people setting up in its shadow....anyone at that point would say without a doubt....WTF?...I know I would.
30 feet is just too close IMO...if the guy farted in his shack..you'd hear it...

To be honest RJ... in that light I see your point. I think that, if it were my shack, I would make nice with the people. Likely invite them in. Get then to gather firewood or something!

LMAO!
I don't have one.. yet!
But the offer stands for next year... you just have to find the lake first!!!

LOL... maybe that's the best idea yet! Want some one to move from "your spot" go stock up on bean's and franks and get gassy in an up-wind position... No need to puff-up your chest and beat it like a gorilla when you can quietly blow-butt and deliver the same message.
Gawd, I miss the soft-water where men fished and shacks are structure...
Ah fellas....I think you are reading me a bit wrong....
The guy was an asswad for yapping like that....I know I wouldn't have yapped...unless it's a group that has the case of "50" on the ice and being jackasses....then it's a different deal altogether...
Like Slop said.....it's way easier to simply find fish elsewhere.....and you'll never have to deal with the potential confrontation...
RJ
P.S. Andy, Relax.....until Jimmy from the Harley, Valley, Jammy chimes in..this one is smooth sailing....
How much room was there to fish around this creek coming in? If its a huge creek with lots of ice around it to fish then I would say to close. If its tiny then it may be different. The fact that there was no one in it makes it a little more o.k. but really, if there was lots of room its kind of needless to pull up that close. I was out yesterday with two friends and we were fishing a huge flat for lakers, were talking like a kilometer long and these two guys pull up on a bike with loads of equipment and stop right in the middle of our lines. Im thinking we must know them if they are stopping in here. They get off and nope, dont know them. One guy says "hi hows the fishing we got one here 2 weeks ago around 7 pounds....." I didnt really know how to respond to this or if he was looking for me to congratulate him or pat him on the back etc. At this point I could see the writing on the wall they were looking to set up on our laps. My buddies and I were having a nice morning enjoying some good conversation and decent fishing and all to have it disturbed by two clowns who think that the fish are only going to come up one hole on a kilometer long flat. Keep in mind when fishing the back lakes that things are a little different then fishing Quinte where its shoulder to shoulder. Some times people retreat to these back lakes to get away and enjoy the peacefulness. On that note they had every right to do this and we didnt say anything to them, but how would you feel?

I would have probably packed my rods and tackle and move along the flat ....... the guys you saw are a bunch of AH !
ya we thought it was kinda needless, but it would have just given into what they would have wanted, plus we were only going to be staying out another hour or so.
do you think the guy was freaked out because of your proximity to his shack due to the fishing, or maybe just out of protectiveness of his property (shack)?
Maybe both...
Did he try to make any civil conversation, or did he just come out guns blaring from the get go?
I can rent out my dog Merlin, if anyone is interested in gassing out someone from a prime spot. He's got his own original version of Agent Orange passing through his pipes.

Finally , a common sense reply....
Nothing to do with ..who owns the Lake..who owns the Spot .....
