The video is a good general overview of rod blank manufacturing but doesn't talk about any of the real technical aspects that you will want to cover off in your project.
Things you might want to look into:
Synthetic Graphite - Most fishing rods are made with synthetic graphite and not natural graphite so including information on how synthetic graphite is produced is a good idea.
Graphite Layering - the process of layering the sheets of graphite to strengthen the rod.
Fiberglass composites - the integration of fiberglass with graphite to build a composite rod for specialty fishing applications.
Have a look at North Fork Composites: you will learn some of the more technical aspects of rod blank manufacture.
Other things you are going to want to research that all play a role:
Scrim, Spine, Rate of Deflection, Graphite Tonnage, Modulus, Taper Etc.
What I would do is visit the various Rod Company sites and e-mail them asking if they can provide any info on the process. In muskies canada we once had a rep for Loomis give us a presentation on how their rods are made so I don't think there would be anything proprietary. Who knows, they might like the free advertising.
Sweet!
Thank you all for your support. The youtube pretty much did the basics in what i need to know.
Ill send a few e-mails to some companies as well though.
But something tells me i wouldnt get a reply in time
and ill give that person a pm as well.
Again, than you all for your input
its not the fisherman that catches the fish,, its the gear,,,
