What to do in this situation!??

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Keep in mind that it is legal to spear carp and white suckers (in Ontario). The questions only arose when the guys commented that they were going to be targeting eyes, which as we reluctantly recognize as a "status" right.

Why is this even a question?

Instead of recording his plates and reporting him based on an assumption which you can't prove, why didn't you confront him face to face?

What's the worst that could have happened, "Mind yer business!".

People who report others should be accountable for their actions and have consequences if they turn out wrong. Are you that sure your right that you would pay a price if wrong? If not leave it be.

...and "Let me speak to your manager." I'm not sure if harassing the customers who shop at the place you work is the way to go on this one.

My take is, unfortunately nothing can be done unless it's a) illegal given the circumstances and b) the people are caught in the act by the proper authorities.

I agree with CRP_4321. I would suggest talking to them if it were to happen again in the future. Perhaps they are newbies unaware of the rules (hard to believe, I know) in which case a conversation with LB staff could clear it up for them. You could also contact the MNR to find out what they think would be the best way to approach the situation.

Bass Addict/CRP_431 - FIRST OFF!!!!!!

I told you I didnt have a chance to talk to the guys! READ!!! I was on lunch hour and just got a glimpse of them leaving the store!
Other wise I would have been very vocal! Everyone who knows me personally would know this!

Second off they sell spears because they can be used for Carp, also stated in original post. Sometimes I think people post here just to exploit some verbal diarrhea.

You would not believe the people I need to educate on simple resource management on a daily basis! From people trying to net fish, snag fish, limits, OOS fish etc. Im the reason the 10/0 mustad hooks are gone in the Ottawa store!!!! I also got gaffs out of there too!

Youd never in a million years guess what 2 more Quebec license plate fellas wanted 10/0 mustad hooks for a year back or so! Might as well say!!! AND YES I GAVE THEM A FEW PIECES OF MY MIND!
They used them by attaching an apple to them, then hanging the apple with a hook attached with a strong rope to a tree! Guess what happens next?!!? Uh Huh 100% true! They were hooking up deer in their backyards then shooting them!! Or simply letting them suffer to death! Nothing like hooking up a deer Saturday morning, then going to work, coming home to see a deer for dinner hanging from your tree. It probably spent all day trying to escape a 10/0 mustad hook lodged in its jaw or gums!Sound Humane.... I have no patience for ignorance or spear buying poachers! Unless they are legal doing it! Still dont agree with it. But little choice we have!

I got soooooooooooo many stories about complete absurd practices. Reason I dont share on FH! Everyone is "Judge Judy"!

So I will go back to my 1-2 posts a year! Just so I can prevent guys like Bass Addict & crp_431 from judging peoples actions! When he or she has no clue on how the situation went down! "NASTY"!!!

get rid of them

Post by mikemicropterus »

Hey Spence CHILLAX, If you got rid of the GAFFS and 10/0 MUSTADS get rid of the spears, I know lots of guys who bow hunt carp and spear suckers and they don't care where they buy their implements of DEATH..

How much does your store make on selling spears a year  certainly not enough to cover overhead costs. If this thread twisting your shorts  then eliminate the TWISTER, i.e. the spears. Then these guys shop at CT. Then you won't see them shopping for spears and you won't get upset. :? Don't you think that is a LOGICAL instead of emotional response. And asking fellow hawkers for their comments; what do you think some are going to say, "CUDO"S SPENCE ATTA BOY". But I applaud your conviction to save the walleyes..

No offence to Hawkers out there by these comments but everyone is entitled to their opinion whether we agree with it or not. If taken my lumps on here and given some but if learnt that "if you live by the sword you will die by the sword."

I really don't think the loss of revenue from selling spears is going to put Mrs. G in the poor house.

Now I'm going to send a letter to Harper about a whiney member of parliament and her drunk, drug taking husband, who gets off with a slap on the wrist. DUI charges dropped and he pleads guilty to careless. I think it would be better time spent. I think all members of parliamnet should get random urinalysis tests but I fear the level of alcohol found in their samples would surprise all of us. That's my bone of contention but I don't want to hi-jack the thread. :D

Spence Scout,

You posted in a public forum asking for advice so that is what you received.

I am just saying all the talk about reporting people is not the way men should deal with problems. There are all kinds of bad things people do, we all know this, but you can't change it by getting upset and debating about reporting someone for no provable reason. Bad reputations are built this way(through action, not debating action).

For being someone who claims to be very vocal, how is it that me, a nobody to you, can keep you from posting to only twice a year?

Don't let me scare you off the forum since that was not my intention but perhaps you should thicken your skin a bit?

Regards,
Chris
