The Situation!

Post by Joisey Joe »

OK, so here's the situation, I'm fishin for pike in an area where there are weeds bout 2 feet from the surface in open water, no structures or rocks, I usually use a rapala minnow or something similiar, get lotta small pike but the gators follow but don't hit, what would you try to get those big guys? A bigger lure will attract bigger fish.

Good luck.

Probably 3/4 to 1oz...

24/7 only fishes for BEASTS!

Swimbaits... probably not what he means... a sluggo will go through the water pretty erratic. Drives'em nuts!! 8)

I'd rock a suspending minnow, something you can sit right in their face. Maybe a husky jerk or a rouge. I usually catch alot of early season gators on the husky jerk in about 4' of water.

Dupe, thanks, I picked up Sebile skinny eel, it's a nice slender minnow that is suspending, I plan on givin it a whack along with a brand new flat rap. I haven't tryed my Huskys either so will do also. Anybody have any spoons to suggest?

Could try a white 5" Flappin Shad or the like...

Better yet, a 5 inch white bucktail streamer. Think ya need something that has a tonne of life to it with the slowest retrieve.
